A new computer simulation suggests the moon may have formed within hours, offering striking support for the biblical account of creation recorded in Genesis.

Scientists modeled the ancient collision between Earth and Theia, a Mars-sized planet believed to have struck the young Earth about 4.5 billion years ago. Unlike previous studies, the simulation considered the temperature and physical strength of the rock and metal inside both planets.

Under one scenario, a fully formed moon appeared in Earth’s orbit within approximately five hours.

“When we used the same parameters and temperature structures found in earlier impact models,” lead researcher Dr. Adeene Denton told the Daily Mail, “an intact moon appeared within five hours.”

Other simulations produced a ring of debris that would have gradually formed the moon. However, the five-hour result challenges the assumption that the moon’s formation necessarily required an extremely long process.

The findings quickly drew comparisons to the Genesis creation account.

“The Book of Genesis told me this a while ago,” one social media user wrote.

Another declared, “God can create anything by word.”

Science Points Back to Genesis

Genesis 1:14-19 records that God created the lights in the heavens on the fourth day. The “greater light” governs the day, while the “lesser light” governs the night.

Although the researchers did not design the study to prove the Bible, the simulation presents another reason to reject the notion that rapid creation is scientifically unthinkable. The model demonstrates that major cosmic events can unfold within hours instead of requiring an extended, gradual process.

Scripture does not provide a mechanical explanation for how God formed the moon. It tells us something far more important: God commanded, and creation obeyed.

As one commenter said, “God can create anything by word.” That truth stands at the heart of biblical creation. Scientific models will continue to change, but God’s Word remains firm. The heavens still declare His glory, and the moon continues to testify to the authority of its Creator.
