Democratic Texas Senate candidate James Talarico is facing renewed scrutiny after a resurfaced video showed him rejecting the exclusive truth of Jesus Christ and presenting the world’s religions as interchangeable paths to the divine.
According to Breitbart News, Talarico said he views different faiths as “equal pathways to truth.” He compared religious traditions to points around a circle, with what he called the divine mystery of the universe occupying the center.
Talarico then placed Christianity alongside Islam, Buddhism and Indigenous spiritual beliefs.
“God or Yahweh or Allah or Nirvana, the Great Spirit,” Talarico said, describing them as paths toward the same fundamental truth.
His comments directly contradict one of Christianity’s clearest and most foundational teachings: Salvation comes through Jesus Christ alone. Christianity does not present Jesus as one enlightened teacher among many, nor does Scripture place Him beside Allah, Nirvana or any other spiritual path.
Talarico has expressed similar religious views before. During a 2021 invocation in the Texas House, he referenced the Torah, Quran, Gita, Dharma and the First Epistle of John before concluding, “In all your many names, we pray.”

Breitbart also reported that Talarico previously called Christianity the “most violent” religion, claimed it had caused more damage to Islam than any other faith and described God as “beyond gender.” He has also argued that the Bible is silent on abortion.
These are not minor theological disagreements. Talarico’s remarks erase the defining claim of the gospel and replace biblical Christianity with universalism.
If Talarico were a Christian as he claims, he would know and believe the words of Jesus Himself: “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me” (John 14:6, MEV).
