What exactly happened at 30,000 feet when a routine conversation involving Rabbi Jonathan Cahn suddenly erupted into chaos?
The viral American Airlines Flight 618 incident has already made headlines for the extraordinary scene of a passenger being restrained and duct-taped to his seat. But as more details emerge about Cahn’s interaction with the man before the confrontation, Christian leaders are looking beyond the physical altercation—and asking whether something spiritual was happening in the skies.
Isaiah Saldivar, Mike Signorelli and Joseph Z have each reacted to Cahn’s account, and while their interpretations take different paths, all three see the incident as something believers should pay attention to.
Isaiah Saldivar: Was This a Demonic Manifestation?
Saldivar focused immediately on the dramatic change Cahn says occurred during his conversation with the passenger.
According to Cahn’s account, the interaction began peacefully. The two discussed family, church and books. But Cahn says the atmosphere shifted after he began speaking more directly about the gospel, Jesus Christ and the reality and power of God.
“Basically, the guy started manifesting a demon,” Saldivar said.
Cahn says the passenger began cursing Jesus and God before the encounter became increasingly hostile. Then came another striking moment: Cahn showed him the cover of his new book, The Altar of Pergamon.

According to Cahn, the man’s behavior escalated again. The passenger allegedly struck him, grabbed for his laptop and fought him for possession of it. Cahn’s previously injured arm was hurt again during the struggle.
For Saldivar, the spiritual implications were difficult to dismiss.
“This is the devil’s agenda,” he said. “And the Lord is overthrowing the enemy.”
Instead of seeing the attack as the end of the story, Saldivar suggested it could accomplish the exact opposite of what the enemy intended: drawing even greater attention to Cahn and his message.
Mike Signorelli: A ‘Tsunami of Offense’ Is Coming
Signorelli saw another warning buried inside the encounter: offense.
According to Signorelli’s discussion of the incident, the passenger had spoken with Cahn about being hurt and judged by religious people and connected those experiences with his rejection of Christianity.
That detail caught Signorelli’s attention because of something he says God had already been speaking to him about.
“The Lord told me,” Signorelli said, “beginning in September the spirit of offense, the demon of offense is going to increase like never before.”
Signorelli warned that this spirit would seek to fracture families, divide churches and turn legitimate wounds into deep-rooted bitterness.
“Pain is real, rejection is real, hurt is real,” Signorelli said, “but it doesn’t have to turn into full-blown demonization.”
His warning became even more pointed when he described what he believes is approaching as a “tsunami of offense” this fall.
If Signorelli is right, the battle may not simply be about what happened aboard one airplane. The greater danger could be Christians allowing wounds, anger and bitterness to become footholds that tear apart relationships from the inside.
Joseph Z: ‘September Is a Collision Month’
Then Joseph Z raised the question even higher.
“What is happening in the airlines? What’s happening in the sky?” he asked.
Joseph connected the Cahn incident with other events he sees as signs of increasing spiritual resistance and pointed to its timing as the Sept. 11 anniversary approaches.
“September is a collision month,” he declared.
But Joseph’s message was not ultimately one of defeat.
“I don’t believe things are falling apart,” he said. “I believe things are falling in place.”
Joseph argued that intensified darkness can appear just before breakthrough. He described believers as nearing a “zero barrier breakthrough point” and spoke of what he believes will become a “tsunami of breakthrough.”
Drawing from the biblical account of Ahab, Jezebel and Elijah, Joseph argued that persecution can eventually produce reformation. The greater the resistance, the more important it becomes for believers to discern the season rather than retreat from it.
One Viral Attack, Three Spiritual Warnings
Three Christian leaders are looking at the same extraordinary event and highlighting three dimensions: warfare, offense and breakthrough.
Ultimately, it lends to one powerful question: What if the battle surrounding Flight 618 did not end when the plane landed?
Perhaps the greater warning is for believers to guard their hearts, sharpen their discernment and recognize that when darkness gets louder, it does not necessarily mean darkness is winning.
