Spiritual warfare is a reality throughout Scripture. God’s kingdom advances truth, strength, protection, peace and His purposes. The kingdom of darkness works to counterfeit each one with lies, weakness, destruction, fear and resistance.
In a recent teaching, evangelist Daniel Adams unpacked five biblical assignments of angels alongside the demonic counterfeits that oppose them. His message serves as a reminder that while the enemy actively resists God’s work, the kingdom of darkness can never overcome the kingdom of God.
1. Angels bring God’s truth. Demons spread lies.
Throughout Scripture, angels are sent to reveal God’s will and proclaim His truth. Adams pointed to Gabriel’s announcement in Luke 1 as a clear example of heaven delivering God’s message.
“One kingdom speaks truth to bring life and the other speaks lies to bring destruction.”
The enemy counters that assignment through deception.
According to Adams, the devil uses lies, false doctrine, accusation and confusion to pull people away from God’s Word. He compared it to Moses confronting Pharaoh’s magicians, noting that God’s truth ultimately consumed the counterfeit.
“Truth will always prevail. Lies will always fail.”
2. Angels strengthen God’s people. Demons weaken God’s people.
Before Jesus went to the cross, an angel strengthened Him in the Garden of Gethsemane. Adams said we should not be surprised that God still ministers strength to His people today.
The enemy’s counterfeit comes through:
- Discouragement
- Temptation
- Spiritual fatigue
- Pressure
- Hopelessness
“Hell tries to exhaust you until you quit. Hell wants you to quit.”
When we begin feeling spiritually worn down, Adams encouraged us to lean into God rather than retreat from Him.

3. Angels protect God’s people. Demons seek to destroy God’s people.
Psalm 91 declares that God gives His angels charge over His people. Adams also shared a personal testimony of what he believes was supernatural protection during a dangerous automobile accident.
He contrasted that promise with Jesus’ warning in John 10:10.
“While angels are assigned to protect, the devil comes to steal, kill, and destroy. God’s kingdom preserves life. Satan’s kingdom attacks life.”
God’s desire is preservation. Satan’s objective is destruction.
4. Angels bring peace. Demons bring torment.
One of the most common phrases spoken by angels throughout Scripture is, “Fear not.”
Adams said heaven continually points us toward God’s peace, promises and faithfulness, while the enemy attempts to overwhelm us with fear, panic, confusion and torment.
“While God’s kingdom produces peace, love, and a sound mind… the enemy’s kingdom produces fear, torment, panic, and confusion.”
As Adams noted, we are called to walk in the fear of the Lord—not fear of the future, failure or the circumstances around us.
5. Angels advance God’s purposes. Demons resist God’s purposes.
Daniel 10 paints a vivid picture of spiritual warfare unfolding behind the scenes as an angel responds to Daniel’s prayers while encountering demonic resistance.
“Delayed answers are not always denied answers.”
Adams encouraged us to persevere in prayer, recognizing that spiritual opposition may delay what God is doing, but it cannot stop His will.
The counterfeit never has the final word
Adams reminds us that Satan has never created an original assignment. Every attack of darkness is a counterfeit of something God established first. Wherever God sends truth, the enemy sends lies. Wherever God sends strength, the enemy sends weakness. Wherever God sends protection, the enemy sends destruction. Wherever God sends peace, the enemy sends fear. Wherever God advances His purposes, the enemy attempts to resist them.
Even so, we do not live in fear. We belong to the victorious kingdom of God. As Adams reminded us, our eyes belong on Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit leads us into all truth, and God’s purposes will always prevail over the kingdom of darkness.
