A widespread outage tied to Amazon Web Services (AWS) disrupted dozens of popular websites and online services Friday morning, leaving many users unable to access their favorite apps.
According to the Daily Mail, the issues began around 6:40 a.m. ET, with outage reports affecting services including Apple Pay, DoorDash, Reddit, Hulu and PlayStation.
Oregon AWS Region at Center of Disruption
The disruption appeared to be centered on AWS’s US-West-2 region in Oregon, where the company confirmed it was investigating connectivity problems.
AWS initially reported issues with five services before expanding the list to seven, adding Global Accelerator and Elastic Container Service.
The Daily Mail reported that the additions “suggested the failure was affecting multiple layers of AWS’s Oregon network rather than a single product.”

AWS later labeled the incident as “impacted,” confirming customers were experiencing problems. However, there was “no indication that data had been lost or Amazon’s entire global network had failed,” according to the report.
The outage prompted companies that rely on AWS to notify customers of service interruptions.
One company posted on X, “there is a massive AWS outage in America which is causing interruptions.”
Users also took to social media to express their frustration.
“AWS is down and is literally breaking the internet. Please hang on,” one person wrote on X.
Another user added, “This is not a drill, AWS in us-west-2 is offline for everyone.”
AWS provides the cloud infrastructure that powers countless websites, applications and online services, meaning even a regional disruption can have widespread effects across the internet.
As of Friday morning, AWS continued investigating the incident.
