The Board of Peace is back to making new strides in how to reconstruct Israel and Gaza.
President Donald Trump’s Board of Peace is reportedly moving away from its original vision of rebuilding the entire Gaza Strip in favor of a much smaller humanitarian “pilot city” in southern Gaza. While supporters see the plan as a realistic first step toward recovery, critics warn it could permanently alter the geopolitical landscape of one of the world’s most contested regions.
According to the Financial Times, the Board of Peace is preparing a pilot humanitarian zone in the Rafah area that would initially house tens of thousands of Palestinians rather than attempt the monumental task of reconstructing all of Gaza. The proposed community would include temporary housing, humanitarian aid distribution, municipal services and civilian administration led by Palestinian technocrats. Security would remain coordinated with Israel, with plans for an eventual International Stabilization Force to assist in maintaining order.

The proposal marks a significant shift from earlier expectations that the Board of Peace would oversee Gaza’s broader reconstruction. According to The Guardian, officials concluded that ongoing military operations, security concerns, funding shortages and unresolved political challenges—including Hamas’ continued refusal to disarm—have made a comprehensive rebuilding effort unrealistic for now.
Meanwhile, the Jewish News Syndicate reported that preparations are already underway for humanitarian pilot areas in southern Gaza, with planners viewing the initiative as a possible framework for restoring civilian life while broader political negotiations continue.
Beyond the political debate lies a deeper reality that believers should not ignore.
For decades, Gaza has remained at the center of regional conflict and competing visions for peace. Jesus warned that the last days would be marked by “wars and rumors of wars” while reminding His followers not to lose heart, “for all these things must happen” (Matt. 24:6, MEV).
At the same time, Scripture calls believers to “pray for the peace of Jerusalem” (Ps. 122:6)—not as passive observers of world events, but as watchmen who recognize that every headline unfolding in the Middle East should stir both discernment and prayer.
Regardless of what we see happen next, we must remember that lasting peace will ultimately come not through human governments, but through the reign of the Prince of Peace.
