Hero 5-Year-Old Saves Brother From Icy Creek, Now Fighting for His Life

A 5-year-old Minnesota boy is being hailed for his courage and selflessness after saving his younger brother from an icy creek on Easter Sunday, a moment that has become a powerful testimony of love, sacrifice and faith.

Ashkan Thibodeaux and his younger brother, Wyatt, were exploring near a creek in Itasca County when tragedy struck. As reported by Breitbart, Wyatt slipped into the freezing water and could not get out. Without hesitation, Ashkan jumped in. As a GoFundMe page described, “Ashkan didn’t hesitate for a second. He saw the danger and jumped in to save his brother, guiding him to safety and saving his life.”

Both boys survived, but Ashkan suffered serious injuries in the process. He endured internal damage and slight brain trauma and was placed on life support before doctors were able to stabilize him. He has since undergone multiple surgeries, including procedures involving his appendix and portions of his intestines.

Despite the severity of his condition, signs of hope are emerging.

In recent days, Ashkan has been able to sit up in a chair, bringing relief to his family and community. His loved ones declared, “God has been working, and we will continue to watch Him work today.”

Support has poured in from across the community. A GoFundMe campaign has raised more than $48,000 to help cover mounting medical expenses, while local hockey moms have organized additional fundraisers. One supporter emphasized the family’s greatest need, saying, “They want everybody to know that they need prayer. He’s got a long road [ahead].”

Ashkan’s bravery reflects the kind of sacrificial love that points us back to Christ, reminding us of the power of stepping in to save another, no matter the cost. As his recovery continues, we stand together in faith, believing for healing and restoration.

Let us lift up Ashkan and Wyatt, along with their family, in prayer. May God strengthen their bodies, bring complete healing and surround them with peace, provision and unwavering hope in this difficult season.
