A 15-year-old student opened fire during morning classes at Hill Country College Preparatory High School in Bulverde, Texas, shooting a teacher before fatally shooting himself, according to an Associated Press report cited by NEWS4SA.
The shooting triggered an immediate lockdown and a large law enforcement response as deputies rushed to the Mustang Vista area following reports of gunfire. Officials confirmed the situation was quickly contained and said, “this is NOT an active shooter situation. There is no threat to any students at this time.”
The injured teacher was transported to a San Antonio hospital. Authorities have not released her condition. The student was pronounced dead at the scene. Students were later transported to Bulverde Middle School for reunification with their families as multiple law enforcement agencies launched an investigation.
Sophomore Kristen Brown was inside the school when the gunfire erupted. “We were, me and my friend, we were both walking down the stairs, and we heard like five big shots,” she said. “We didn’t really know what happened.”
Brown said a teacher quickly directed students to take cover. “She was like get in a room, get in a room. So we just all fled into a room.”
As confusion spread through the campus, Brown said she leaned on her faith in the middle of the chaos.
“I feel really grateful especially for like I know that God was with me during that time,” she said. “And I know that He really protected me.”

She added that her trust in God extended beyond her own safety. “I know He’s protecting everybody in that gym right now, everybody who left and I know He has His hand over whoever got hurt.”
Brown described the moment as overwhelming but said she felt a sense of peace after being reunited with her mother. “I feel really happy that she’s here.”
Students also supported one another as they evacuated. “We were all really caring for each other. We all made sure that everybody was okay,” she said.
The tragedy has left a community shaken as families process the violence that unfolded inside a place meant for learning and safety.
Now, in the aftermath of this horrific event, believers are urged to lift up the students, teachers, first responders and families in prayer. Pray for healing for the injured, comfort for those traumatized and the peace of God to cover this community in the days ahead.
