Increasing global instability, rising antisemitism and nonstop geopolitical upheaval have driven renewed interest in biblical end-times prophecy. Many analysts and pastors say the pace of these events is accelerating and forming recognizable patterns described in Scripture.
Pastor Tom Hughes of Hope for Our Times is among those sounding the alarm, saying current developments mirror what the Bible records about the last days. “Something is not right,” Hughes said as he opened his latest prophecy update. Citing Ezekiel 28, he affirmed God’s covenant with Israel: “The land I’ve given to the Jews, it’s theirs. I gave it to them.”
He also pointed to Zechariah 12:9: “I will seek to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem,” noting that modern hostility toward Israel fits this warning.
Rising “Peace and Safety” Language
Hughes said the surge in diplomatic pushes for Middle East stability is prophetically significant.
“All we heard is a talk of peace and safety escalating. Peace. Peace. May there be peace,” he said.
He tied this directly to 1 Thessalonians 5, where declarations of “peace and safety” precede sudden destruction.
Nations Aligning With Ezekiel 38
Hughes emphasized that the nations now involved in diplomatic negotiations match the coalition named in Ezekiel 38. These include:
- Russia
- Turkey
- Sudan (biblical Ethiopia)
- Iran and Libya
“Every single one of those territories… Israel, Sudan, Russia and Turkey — all of them are part of Ezekiel chapter 38,” he said.

Hughes warned that progress in Russia–Ukraine talks may shift Moscow’s attention toward the Middle East. “Russia will now be free to be able to turn their attention… to the Middle East,” he said, linking it to Ezekiel’s imagery of God placing “hooks into your jaws.”
He also raised the issue of Israel’s growing gas production. “What happens when Israel starts making deals with Europe that cuts out Russia?” he asked.
Sudan and Turkey’s Expanding Roles
Sudan remains a focal point. “Sudan is a huge problem,” Hughes said, arguing that its instability and international peace efforts echo Ezekiel’s references to Ethiopia.
He also highlighted Turkey’s expanding influence. “Turkey’s fingerprints seem to be all over everything,” he said, noting its push to shape both Gaza negotiations and Russia–Ukraine discussions.
Unprecedented Antisemitism
Hughes warned that global antisemitism is accelerating. “It’s building. It’s building and it’s building,” he said. He compared modern rhetoric to the climate before Kristallnacht, recalling how the Nazis “spread conspiracy theories… including false claims it was a global Jewish plot.”
Theological Attacks on Israel
Hughes also rejected replacement theology. “You’re calling God a liar,” he said, quoting Romans 11:29: “My gifts and callings are irrevocable.”
Prophetic Convergence
According to Hughes, these elements — peace rhetoric, geopolitical realignment, hostility toward Israel and rising antisemitism — form a unified prophetic picture.
“Everything’s coming together just as the Bible says,” he said. He closed with Jesus’ words: “When you see all of these things begin to take place, look up… because your redemption draws near.”
