On Sept. 10, conservative activist Charlie Kirk was assassinated while speaking at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah. The tragedy left the nation in shock as word spread quickly that the 31-year-old had been killed in an act of political violence. Condolences poured out to his widow Erika and their two small children as Americans grappled with the loss of a young leader whose voice had become central in cultural and political debates.
Katie Souza and Jonathan Cahn respond
In the wake of the tragedy, Christian broadcaster and author Katie Souza hosted a special discussion with Rabbi Jonathan Cahn, a Messianic Jewish pastor and best-selling author known for books such as The Harbinger and The Avatar.

Cahn has become one of the most prominent prophetic voices in America, often linking current events to biblical patterns and ancient spiritual forces. Together they address not just the political implications of Kirk’s assassination, but the deeper spiritual warfare that stands behind it.
Cahn on the war for America’s soul
Cahn did not mince words. “We are in a warfare and the Bible says it and it’s especially evident now,” he said. He tied Kirk’s assassination to a larger battle taking place in America. “Charlie Kirk was on one side of it,” Cahn explained, describing a clash between forces of faith and those aligned against God.

Cahn also connected the murder to other recent shootings targeting Christians. “Both of them were dealing with gender issues, both of them had as their target quote Christian institutions or church institutions,” he said, noting that Kirk’s death fits the same pattern of spiritual hostility.
A chilling symbol in the name Kirk
Looking deeper, Cahn pointed out the haunting significance of Kirk’s very name. “I believe the name Kirk means church,” he said. For Cahn, that made the attack not just on a man but on what he represented: a defender of faith and the values of the Christian church.
Avatars and demonic influence
Cahn went further, linking the killer to his teaching on “avatars,” individuals who serve as vessels for dark spirits. “Those who do this in a sense are avatars or are possessed you know by the are inhabited by these spirits,” he said. “The Bible says that behind the gods are spirits.”
According to Cahn, Kirk’s murder was not simply a political act but an expression of demonic forces seeking to silence Christian voices.
A wake-up call to the church
“This is a wakeup call. It’s real,” Cahn said soberly. “You said, you know, the demonic secret behind the shooting, behind the Minnesota shooting. Okay. As you laid that out… the Bible says they worshiped demons.” For him, Kirk’s assassination is a spiritual flashpoint demanding the attention of believers.
A call to prayer and healing
Souza ended the segment with a prophetic word that Kirk’s mission would continue through others. “Charlie Kirk’s ministry is going to the mantle is going to be picked up and multiplied to honor his sacrifice,” she said.

Both Souza and Cahn urged prayer. “We pray for his family, we pray for the survivors, we pray for those who are close to him, we pray for his ministry,” Cahn said.
In this moment of national mourning, the church is called to lift up Kirk’s widow Erika and their two young children, while also praying for healing and unity in a nation reeling from this horrific act of political violence.
