Move Over Masons: Christians Push Back Darkness in Chicago

The Lord will use what was made for evil for good, if a building in Chicago is any indication.

So out goes the masonic temple and in comes a house of worship for the Love Family Christian Foundation.

“Elgin was one of those communities that the Lord just kind of led us to,” Founder Michael Love tells the Daily Herald. “When this facility became available, it just fit the calling.”

The foundation purchased the temple last year from Chicago’s Family Life Church, which reportedly destroyed the temple’s masonic emblems in 2007.

The Love Foundation’s current move pleases the president of Elgin’s historical society.

“That building needs some use, because otherwise it’s going to deteriorate,” President Bill Briska says. “A building of that size needs a multifunctional purpose in order to sustain itself, and it takes a certain amount of business acumen to make that happen.”

The building includes an auditorium designed to hold 1,260 seats, a gymnasium and a movie theater on the fourth floor and classrooms on the lower level, according to the Daily Herald.
