‘Glory Dust’ Evangelist Bob Shattles Says He’s Battling Liver Cancer

The 65-year-old preacher has postponed ministry engagements

Evangelist Bob Shattles, whose meetings are marked by the mysterious appearance of what many believe is heavenly gold dust, is battling cancer. The 65-year-old former Atlanta police officer was diagnosed last month after suddenly becoming ill.

Shattles is receiving chemotherapy for the cancer that doctors discovered in his liver. He then faces further tests to see if the disease has spread.

Pastor emeritus of Souls Harvest Worship Center in Douglasville, Ga., Shattles has experienced the gold flakes phenomenon for two years, since attending a meeting led by revivalist Ruth Heflin. Heflin died of cancer in September at age 60.

Already booked for meetings through the middle of next year, Shattles is off the road while he receives treatment. His engagements are being filled by his son and son-in-law, but he told Charisma he hopes to return soon.

“I’m not done for God yet,” Shattles said. “I want to live, [but] my hope is eternal. I want to win as many people to Jesus as possible.”
