Wildfires are plaguing one of the most scenic areas in America: the Grand Canyon.
Right now, wildfires are spreading through the Grand Canyon’s North Rim. The inferno is being called The Dragon Bravo Fire.
According to AZ Central, the fire was managed at first through the National Park Service as a controlled burn, which has now ruined the North Rim visitor area, which includes the famous Grand Canyon Lodge.

As AZ Central reports, the park made the decision to keep an eye on the flames instead of putting them out. They were first caused by a strike of lightning that hit on July 4. However, by July 11, the increase in wind is what led the park service to trying “containment features.” As of now, an estimated 50-80 structures have been damaged due to the fires. According to Fox News, there are currently no reports of injuries.
On X, Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs discussed her heartbreak over the loss of the Grand Canyon Lodge and questioned why the fire was allowed to burn for such a long time.
I am incredibly saddened by the destruction of the historic Grand Canyon Lodge, and my heart goes out to every person impacted by the Dragon Bravo Fire near the Grand Canyon’s North Rim.

An incident of this magnitude demands intense oversight and scrutiny into the federal government’s emergency response. They must first take aggressive action to end the wildfire and prevent further damage. But Arizonans deserve answers for how this fire was allowed to decimate the Grand Canyon National Park.

Hobbs is also calling for an investigation into the handling of the fire as well.
