Something so many Christians and non-Christians alike overlook is the legality involved with sin. Mankind legally gave up our earthly authority to Satan during the fall, legally allowing him to become the prince of this world and unleash the sin upon the world. That’s the whole point of the Law of the Old Testament. There are legal repercussions that occur when one hands over their authority to someone else.
It’s the whole reason why Jesus was the propitiation of our sins. What happened on the cross was as much of a legal exchange as it was an offering of grace and mercy.
Because there are legal exchanges in the spiritual world just as there are in the physical world, there are times that we either knowingly or unknowingly allow the enemy to have access into our lives.
Demons can’t impose a curse on someone unless they have legal right to do so. They carry out the judgment that the courtroom of Heaven has sanctioned. To help you understand, demons carrying out a curse are like U.S. Marshals removing a squatter from a property who has failed to pay their rent. They’ve been given authority to carry out the judgment given by the court.
The kingdom of darkness is the same. We see this in the life of Job, before all the calamity that happened to him, we find a court preceding in motion where Satan asked permission to attack him. The Lord granted that permission and Satan went and carried out that judgement.
“‘All right, you may test him,’ the LORD said to Satan. ‘Do whatever you want with everything he possesses, but don’t harm him physically.’ So Satan left the LORD’s presence.” (Job 1:12 NLT).
Satan was given authority to carry out the curse and cause misfortune to hit everything he owned (including his physical health) …but…the curse had a restriction “do not harm him physically” this is exactly what demons do when carrying out a curse, they can only go as far as the judgment of the curse permits. Anything further then that would be unjust. The courtroom of heaven is dictating everything, stipulating and controlling everything!
So, what is a generational curse, and how is it legal in the life of the believer?
A generational curse is a verdict given by the courtroom of heaven against household, that committed a transgression against God’s law that warrants it. It’s basically the same as a curse but instead of a person, it’s against a family unit. The only difference is, when God is cursing a household that judgment keep transferring down the bloodline until the demands of justice has been satisfied.
“You shall not bow down to any images nor worship them in any way, for I am the Lord your God. I am a jealous God, and I will bring the curse of a father’s sins upon even the third and fourth generation of the children of those who hate Me; but I will show kindness to a thousand generations of those who love Me and keep My commandments” (Deut. 5:9-10, TLB).
Cursed Through Actions
The Bible is very clear that curse doesn’t come without a cause (Prov. 26:2). So, the primary way that a curse is activated is by “someone initiated it” heaven isn’t going around cursing people at random, someone has to initiate the curse. Humans curse themselves either by ignorance or by violating, ignoring and rejecting God’s laws. Adam didn’t curse himself by mistake, he willfully made the choice to eat from the tree of knowledge of good and evil. When he did he opened the door to disobedience and the curse was activated.
As a matter of fact, the first time we ever really see the word “curse” is found in Genesis chapter 3 with God cursing the serpent, then cursing Eve (for eating the fruit and causing her husband to eat) and to Adam for allowing himself to be influenced by Eve and ate. God is just, He doesn’t curse anyone who doesn’t deserve it.
Cursed Through Partnerships
The second way you can become cursed is your partner with someone, who cursed and the consequences of that curse begins transfer on everyone who is in partnership it’s that person. We see in Genesis that the whole land of Egypt were placed under a curse of barrenness by the actions of Pharaoh.
Cursed Through Words
The worlds that we see both physical and spiritual were framed by one thing— words! The book of Hebrews 11: 4 says that universe around us is the direct result of words. The same can be said about the universe we are raised in and who we are to become as people. If we’re raised in a loving environment who words are nurturing, affirming, corrective, then we will grow up emotionally, mentally, stable people who can function as God intended in our families.
But if we’re raised in an environment where words of belittlement and rejection are the norm, then the curses attached to those words will be activated. The Bible says “death and life are in the power of the tongue” which means our tongues do have power to set off a chain of events that either bring life to person or death. {eoa}
