I’ve spent my entire Christian life breaking curses, most of which were family curses. And I can tell you this: Family curses are not easily revealed. They do not announce themselves, and once they are identified, they do not go away without a fight. They also attempt to return repeatedly, and it requires vigilance to keep the doors shut.
Two Dangerous Extremes
Whenever I mention the possibility of family curses, I’m met with two very opposite extremes.
Some people do not believe that Christians can be cursed. They cite Galatians 3:13, “Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us.” The idea is that God’s judgment for our sin fell completely on Christ, and any idea of being cursed or living out a curse is ludicrous. These people mistakenly believe that if Jesus paid the price, then all curses have been automatically eliminated.
Legally this is true, but Satan doesn’t let go easily. Most who adhere to this kind of thinking have not yet identified symptoms of the curse, such as sickness, poverty, insanity, and so on, nor have they asked themselves on a practical level if they or any Christian whom they know has exhibited such symptoms.

On the other extreme are people who lack solid teaching about Christ’s full redemption from curses. They also lack the knowledge of how to walk out their freedom in Him. Sadly, when symptoms hit, they become infatuated with deliverance remedies that are not grounded in Scripture and either don’t work or don’t last. They connect with unaccountable deliverance ministries that keep them in the spin cycle of lousy teaching and deliverance hype, ministries using spiritual methods that leave them worse and not better.
One man was filmed being delivered from a demon by a popular deliverance minister. His “deliverance” not only was filmed in a public setting but also became a viral video on this minister’s social media. The man ended up at our church, desperate and asking for help because he became worse and not better. Clearly, the methods used by the minister were ungrounded and achieved great social media press only. They did not bring any relief to this man.
You Are the Breaker of Curses
Years ago, Dr. Michael Maiden, founder and senior leader of Church for the Nations in Phoenix, Arizona, spoke prophetic words over my life. He said: “I saw the Lord. He had a map and began circling regions. You had the authority to declare a word in every region God sent you to. When you declared the word, it began to dismantle these dark powers. It’s not an accident that you travel to the geographical places you travel to. It has a heavenly purpose, as you are the breaker of curses.”
I didn’t hear anything else after that. I heard him say “You are the breaker of curses,” and he’s right. The beautiful thing is that once you have overcome a curse, you will continue to do so for others. You will become a curse identifier, counselor and intercessor. What you have overcome, you will ultimately help remove from the lives of others again and again. I believe this brings great contentment to our heavenly Father, and I have experienced deep and personal satisfaction in bringing people out of their captivity, especially in the same areas I had been held captive in myself.

My life is proof that wicked, stubborn curses can be broken, releasing tremendous blessings. What you do today can establish blessings that overshadow your bloodline for generations to come.
