We often hear many believers say that “God is in control.” In fact, we hear it way too many times for my liking. My question to you today is this, “Is God in control?”
We need to reconsider and straighten this statement out because this is another area of debate and confusion among believers today. Believers have mixed this statement up for years, once again because of a lack of clarity and teaching. We have spoken on this numerous times; God has given us all authority and, with it, control here on this earth. Meanwhile, He controls all things in the heavens.
Here is a Scripture explaining this. Psalm 115:16 says, “The heavens belong to the Lord, but the earth He has given to the children of men.”
We run into major problems when we declare that God is in control. It is the lies and deception of Satan that have led us to a wrong understanding of “God in control.” I ask this particularly important question, “Why would a non-believer ever choose to accept Christ if we tell him that God is in control of bad things?” Through our relationship with God, He has given us control here on earth. God has given us free will to walk in control or not to, and He does not go against His word. It is so easy for us to blame God for everything, and we continue to do this when we say that He is in control.
There is an old saying about “passing the buck,” and that is exactly what many believers do to take the onus off of themselves and make God responsible for everything, while they continue to blame God for all the bad things that happen. Let me explain it this way: God is not in control on earth, but He is “in charge.” God is in charge of everything! There is a difference between being in control and being in charge.
