We are in a war, but sometimes we don’t realize it is spiritual warfare we are facing. We blame people for mishaps, offenses and rejection. We live in spiritual warfare with the enemy wanting to steal, kill and destroy (John 10:10). We are not simply facing people’s character flaws, bad habits and violent words that are released from their mouths. We are fighting a war against an unseen realm, and that unseen realm has to use a person’s voice and emotions in which to move through and attack us.
The hurt we receive by another person is just that, through a person. However, evil spirits use people to speak hurt, cause conflict and disrupt our lives. Jesus modeled the ministry of deliverance. He cast out spirits in Mark 1:25 and Mark 5:8. He said, “Get out,” indicating a spirit can live inside our soul, but not inside our spirit-man.
Our spiritual warfare most of the time does not come through a demonic entity visiting us; rather, it happens through a demon using a host body through an open door that person has created in their lives, a trauma, generational curse or other ways demons can infiltrate a person. The important thing to remember is that we are not fighting that person, and when we internalize that we can extend God’s love and forgiveness. The Bible tells us, “For our fight is not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, and against spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places” (Eph. 6:12).
We are in a war, but as it says in Ephesians, our fight is not against flesh and blood. Your fight is not against a person. It is not against a person you love, a family member or a boss. Your fight is against the principality operating in them and through them. When you separate the demonic spirit you are fighting from the person, you can then extend forgiveness and God’s love. As you learn who you are fighting and make this separation mentally, then you will release yourself of the hardness of heart you have created towards this person. You will be able to release rejection, bitterness, offense, hatred and anger. You will release yourself.
We are holding ourselves in bondage when we have ill feelings towards another person. We are the one experiencing negative feelings and emotions from what happened. Therefore, as we learn to separate the demonic spirit from the person, we will free ourselves from the bondage we have been captive in, but also in the process, we will live biblically by extending the love and forgiveness Jesus offered us to others.
