Have you ever driven through a region and felt a heaviness? Have you walked into a store or a person’s home, and it felt dark?
I’m sure we’ve all had encounters where we have felt the negative and the positive, but how do we change the spiritual atmosphere when we are somewhere and we can feel the presence of darkness?
Praise changes the atmosphere. Worship changes the atmosphere. The power of our words changes the atmosphere.
We have been given authority over all things. That means we have the authority to change the atmosphere. Unfortunately, instead of us changing the atmosphere, some of us allow the atmosphere to change us. What do you do when you face such an encounter?
How to change the atmosphere:
—Worship music: When at all possible, play worship music. The lyrics often encompass Scripture, so when you are playing worship music, you are also releasing Scripture into the spiritual atmosphere.
—Pray and declare: Release the power of audible prayer. Bind and restrict the demonic realm and call good things forth. Speak out who you are in Christ. Penetrate the atmosphere with words of praise.
—Quote Scripture: Proclaim out loud Scripture that you have memorized, or if you have a Bible app on your phone, you can read some Scripture aloud. The Bible is full of prophetic and authoritative words to demolish any heaviness or lingering spirits present.
—Release your authority: Jesus gave us authority. You don’t have to put up with what is surrounding you; it has to put up with you. You don’t submit to the darkness; the darkness needs to submit to the light.
Often, we shut down and shut up when darkness comes to penetrate and we experience an eerie feeling, we don’t have to succumb to it. In those instances, we must stand on the Word of God that “He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world” (1 John 4:4b). You don’t have to be afraid or spooked out by your surroundings. You are the light into that surrounding.
We can do a similar thing at church. We speak about how the presence of God is here every week, and then a person came in and contaminated our spiritual atmosphere. Aren’t we carriers of His presence?
We have the Holy Spirit residing in us; that means the presence of God is within us. We need to transform our minds to know we are atmosphere changers and that we carry the presence of God within us.
This means don’t have to submit to outward circumstances when we have the Spirit of God residing on the inside of us. When we change and renew our thoughts and believe who we are, we will change the atmosphere automatically wherever we go by walking in our dominion. {eoa}
