“Yet those who wait for the LORD will gain new strength; They will mount up with wings like eagles, they will run and not get tired, They will walk and not become weary” (Isaiah 40:31).
I recall visiting a friend of mine who was 91 years old at the time. She had known the LORD for over 50 years. Amazingly, every time I saw her, it was like she just got saved the week before. She always reflected a new joy, or a fresh revelation. She had never stopped hungering or thirsting for the deep things of God.
Each time I entered her apartment, the very instant I laid my eyes on her, I saw the dew of heaven on her face. Yes, her hair was gray, and she struggled to walk, but beloved…
Heaven was resting on her face.
There was a peace. There was a youth. There was a beauty. I instantly said in my heart, “I am witnessing the very manifestation of God’s Word.”
“I have been young, and now I am old. Yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken” (Psalm 37:25).
David declared: “Bless the LORD all my soul…”
“Who satisfies your years with good things, So that your youth is renewed like the eagle” (Psalm 103:5).
I realize that at times we may feel like our youth is not being renewed. I am speaking particularly to some of us who are challenged with health issues that arose as we aged. Beloved, I understand. But let’s not lose heart! “Therefore, we do not lose heart, but though our outer man is decaying, yet our inner man is being renewed day by day” (2 Corinthians 4:16).
It is not primarily our outer man that is currently being renewed, (even though God does bring restoration at times to our physical bodies through His Spirit that indwells us– see Romans 8:11). But, we are talking here about our inner man.
My brothers and sisters, the physical person that we see in the mirror is not who we really are. Our bodies are no more than temporary vessels. We are not our hair, skin, face, or even our vital organs; all of that will fade away. Because, one great day, we are going to leave our earthly bodies in exchange for heavenly ones.
My 91-year-old friend, whom I mentioned earlier, was living by the power of the Holy Spirit. She was so alive that the Spirit’s presence radiated through her. When we go wholeheartedly after Him, making Him first in our lives, and striving to be thankful to Him – He will bring refreshment, renewal, and vigor to our inner man. We will be supernaturally alive, no matter what our age!
Remember, Jesus saved the finest wine for last when He performed His first miracle (John 2: 1-12). Let’s believe that the latter years of our life will also be the best, because of our experience in God.
Beloved, God has designed the latter years of our lives to be like fine wine, improving with age, thus becoming the best years of our life—in the Spirit. May the power of God become stronger, fuller, and mightier upon each one of us as we get older. And, even though our natural man is fading away, our spirit man is being transformed, renewed, and will rise up—with the anointing of an eagle!

But, sometimes, we can forget His promises and get distracted by our struggles, concerns and circumstances. In fact, some of you may be struggling right now and may even be finding it difficult to recall the many blessings that Father has given you. Let’s put things in perspective. First and foremost, aren’t you going to heaven? And we were not deserving of His greatest blessing of all—eternal life.
“But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8).
“This is the promise which He Himself made to us: eternal life” (1 John 2:25).
And let me ask, has He ever given you anything that has brought you pleasure or happiness? Do you enjoy spending time with family or friends? Has anybody ever shown you kindness? Has someone demonstrated love to you? Do you enjoy gazing at God’s majestic display of creation? Do you still relish the food that you eat? Are you able to see or hear? Do you have relationships that bring you satisfaction and fulfillment?
I know that life is hard, but take a moment right now to ask yourself, “Hasn’t God brought good into my life?”
“Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow” (James 1:17).
Resist letting the cares and trials of this world overwhelm you and weaken your faith. Stay strong in the Lord, being mindful of all His blessings. Rejoice continually in the truth of His Word, and as you do, be assured that your inner man will: Gain new strength (and) Mount up with wings like eagles
Then one day, my friend, we will be victorious and overcome!
“For this perishable must put on the imperishable, and this mortal must put on immortality”
(1 Corinthians 15:53).
Beloved, you have the anointing of an eagle, let your spirit fly!
