Are You a Thermostat or a Thermometer in the Kingdom?

While a thermometer is a tool to read a room’s temperature, a thermostat is able to control it. Whether it’s wall or boiler-mounted, this control dial is essential for regulating your home’s temperature. Let’s take a deeper look at what a thermostat is, what types of thermostats there are and how they work.

In the natural, one can set the thermostat to the desired temperature, and when the temperature rises of dips, the mechanics of the thermostat is triggered to either raise or lower the room temperature.

Game changers are supposed to be thermostats, not thermometers. How does this operate in the spiritual realm?

The Lord has described in His Word what the “room” or our own individual temperatures should be.

Revelation 3:15-16 (TPT) says, “I know all that you do, and I know that you are neither frozen in apathy nor fervent with passion. How I wish you were either one or the other! But because you are neither cold nor hot, but lukewarm, I am about to spit you from my mouth.”

Pretty intense! Scripture reveals it starts with us. In order to change the temperature in a room, your thermostat needs to first be set to the right temperature.

How do you get to the hot temperature the Lord speaks of here?

Revelation 3:17-22 continues:

For you claim, “I’m rich and getting richer—I don’t need a thing.” Yet you are clueless that you’re miserable, poor, blind, barren, and naked! So I counsel you to purchase gold perfected by fire, so that you can be truly rich. Purchase a white garment to cover and clothe your shameful Adam-nakedness. Purchase eye salve to be placed over your eyes so that you can truly see. All those I dearly love I unmask and train. So repent and be eager to pursue what is right. Behold, I’m standing at the door, knocking. If your heart is open to hear my voice and you open the door within, I will come in to you and feast with you, and you will feast with me. And to the one who conquers I will give the privilege of sitting with me on my throne, just as I conquered and sat down with my Father on his throne. The one whose heart is open let him listen carefully to what the Spirit is saying now to the churches.

I believe it starts with repentance and allowing the Lord to sanctify us.

What is sanctification? Sanctification is the action of making or declaring something holy, such as the sanctification of bread and wine into the body and blood of Christ.

It can mean the action or process of being freed from sin or purified, taking deliberate action on our part.

It can also mean the action of causing something to be or seem morally right or acceptable, such as “the sanctification of violence.”

1 Peter 1:15-17 (BSB) says: “But just as He who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do, for it is written: “Be holy, because I am holy.” Since you call on a Father who judges each one’s work impartially, conduct yourselves in reverent fear during your stay as foreigners.”

Scripture makes it clear it is not an option for believers to not comply with His directives. God gives us choice. Good choices yield good consequences, but bad choices, or acts of disobedience, yield bad consequences.

The sanctification process is not easy in our lives. But His grace is sufficient, and the “spiritual static” on our lives will be removed!

Our vessels, or lives, become open to receiving His new wine. We will be transformed and given new wineskins. Now Jesus can fill us to the brim with new wine. According to the Bible, new wine cannot go in an old wine skin, or it will burst. Even the process of making new wineskins is just that … a process.

Matthew 9:17 describes an account in the New Testament:

“No one sews a patch of unshrunk cloth on an old garment. For the patch will pull away from the garment, and a worse tear will result. Neither do men pour new wine into old wineskins. If they do, the skins will burst, the wine will spill, and the wineskins will be ruined. Instead, they pour new wine into new wineskins, and both are preserved. While Jesus was saying these things, a synagogue leader came and knelt before Him. My daughter has just died, he said. But come and place Your hand on her, and she will live.”

We are the Lord’s hands and feet on this earth, and we each have an end-times destiny.

As we open up to Him, He purifies us, fills us and makes us spiritually hot. Being a thermostat makes us a game changer.

The alternative to not being made pure and hot, as the Bible says in the above Scripture, is not very inviting. While God was addressing the church in Sardis, this biblical principle is for us today.

How do we apply this to being a thermostat for God as a game changer? Remember, a game changer is an event, idea or person which creates a significant shift in the current manner of doing or thinking about something.

As a game changer or prepared vessel, we can sense or discern what is going on around us and adjust the climate in the room. Remember, God has already set the temperature. He wants us all to be hot and passionate! Then, as spiritual thermostats, we can be used by Him to transform the entire environment around us. He can use us to set spiritual fires and ignite individuals, churches, cites, countries and more. These are blazes that will never be extinguished!
