For many years, especially on Mother’s Day, I have meditated on the virtuous woman from Scripture, found in the book of Proverbs, Chapter 31. I have admired many women who fit the pattern of the Proverbs 31 woman. My mother, Dr. Naomi Ruth Barber King, remains at the top of my list of “sheroes.”
“Her children rise up, and call her blessed. Her husband also, and he praises her” (Prov. 31:28, NKJV).

This verse has even more meaning this year because my blessed mother transitioned to heaven on March 7, 2024. Of course I miss my mother. Mere words cannot express the sense of loss coupled with the blessed hope that I will see her in heaven one day.
My parents, the Rev. A.D. King and Dr. Naomi King, loved and blessed me in so many ways during their lifetimes. Daddy was Mama’s “Boaz.” While they are united in heaven after 72 years, this is my first year without her.
What remain for me are my memories of her along with my joys of being a mother and grandmother. I know that mothers everywhere are dealing with trials and triumphs today, so I lift a prayer of thanksgiving to God for the gift of mothers.
Happy Mother’s Day!
