Angelic encounters can manifest in various ways, ranging from spiritual experiences to physical interactions.

Pastor Sergio Nazir Chavez, in an interview with Charisma Media, explained the different types of angelic experiences that believers might encounter and the spiritual warfare they engage in.

“You could have the experience with your spiritual eye, that’s the best experience,” Chavez said, referencing Paul’s prayer for the enlightenment of “the eye of your heart” or “the eye of your understanding.” This signifies a realm where individuals connect with God through their spiritual senses.

Additionally, angels can appear in “visions, dreams and trances,” as documented throughout Scripture from Genesis to Revelation, Chavez says. Physical encounters with angels are also recorded, offering a tangible connection to the heavenly realm.

The role of angels in the lives of believers is both profound and multifaceted. According to the book of Hebrews, angels are “ministering agents, ministering spirits,” tasked with providing service and messages to those who will inherit salvation. Chavez emphasizes that the term “angel” means “messenger,” highlighting their primary function. Psalm 103 further reveals that angels “excel in strength” and “hearken to the Word of God.” This dual role highlights their importance in the spiritual realm, where they serve and obey God’s Word.

Despite their significance, many in the body of Christ fail to realize the potential of angelic assistance.

“Most in the body of Christ do not realize that there are angels that are unemployed,” Chavez says, indicating that these heavenly beings have assignments but are not utilized effectively. The Scripture says that angels “hearken or they hear, they adhere to God’s Word.” Therefore, aligning oneself with God’s Word and speaking it aloud can activate angelic intervention. Proverbs emphasizes the power of spoken words: “Life and death is in our tongue.”

Spiritual warfare is deeply connected to the Word of God. The temptation of Jesus in the wilderness serves as a prime example of using the Word to combat demonic forces. Similarly, in Genesis, Satan’s deception began with questioning God’s Word, “Did God say?” This shows that demonic spirits operate through words, using “words of discouragement, words of deception, words of distraction,” Chavez noted.

Ephesians 6 describes the armor of God, which essentially represents the Word of God. “When we put on the armor of God, we’re actually putting on Christ,” embodying the Word that “became flesh,” Chavez explained.

For believers to wield this power effectively, they must “know it, embrace it and cherish it.” Meditation on the Word, as advised to Joshua and echoed in Psalm 1, is crucial for internalizing its power. “The question is, is the Word getting inside of you?” Chavez asks. Only then can we combat the “arrows, force words, discouragement, deception” of the enemy, maintaining their spiritual defense and advancing in their faith journey.
