Transformation in the Christian life doesn’t come primarily from large encounters at conferences or altars. Instead, it comes from daily, intentional moments spent with God. As Vlad Savchuk reminds us, “A thing that changes your life is not a large encounter with God at the altar. What’s going to really change your life is the daily encounters that you have in your own bedroom.” Here are four of those ways that you can practically walk with the Holy Spirit every day.

1. Schedule Your Priorities, Not Just Your Day

Many Christians live reactively, moving from Sunday to Sunday or conference to conference. The key is to put God first every day. Matthew 6:33 instructs us: “Seek first the kingdom of God, and all these things shall be added to you.”
Savchuk emphasizes the importance of morning devotion: “If God is not first in our thoughts and efforts in the morning, he will be in the last place the remaining of the day.”

By prioritizing God at the start of your day, you shape your mindset, decisions and actions for the hours that follow.

2. Wake Up Early and Spend Time in Prayer

Morning prayer sets the tone for the day and helps you avoid distraction and temptation. Savchuk shares his story of beginning early morning prayer as a teen. “I started to go as a 16-year-old. I asked my pastor for the keys. I opened the church, turned on a little of music. And my prayer life, my hosting the Holy Spirit, started by building an early prayer.”

Even if you’re not naturally an early riser, a small adjustment can make a big difference. “Set your alarm 30 minutes earlier and start that today. You go and you spend time with the Holy Spirit. You go and you spend time in God’s word. You go and you spend time in worship.”

3. Go to Prayer to Be With God, Not to Find Him

God is already present; prayer is about relationship, not searching. Savchuk explains: “Don’t go to prayer to find God. Go to prayer to be with Him.”

He further references Exodus 24:12 to show that God desires our presence, saying that we should “just be there.”

Approaching prayer with this mindset transforms it from duty into delight. You are offering your presence to God, just as a loved one delights in spending time with you.

4. Let Your Daily Life Reflect Your Encounter With God

How you live your day-to-day life and how you spend time with God are inseparable.

“How you live your day shapes how you encounter God,” Savchuk says. And how you experience God shapes how you live your day.”

Consistent encounters with the Holy Spirit help guard against temptation, guide your decisions and cultivate holiness, wisdom and joy.
