As the world watches conflict happening in the Middle East, questions about biblical prophecy are resurfacing—particularly concerning the fate of Damascus, one of the world’s oldest continuously inhabited cities.

In a newly released by Living Waters’ Ray Comfort, the evangelist explores how current events may be echoing ancient prophetic warnings.

Central to Comfort’s discussion is a chilling prophecy from the book of Isaiah, written around 700 B.C.: “Behold, Damascus will cease from being a city and will become a ruinous heap” (Isa. 17:1). While parts of Damascus have suffered extensive destruction from years of war and regime-led sieges, it has never fully ceased to exist as a city. Unlike cities such as Berlin, which rebounded from near-total devastation in World War II, Damascus remains broken and unreconstructed, burdened by economic collapse and political corruption.

Comfort suggests that a nuclear event in Damascus could bring this prophecy to total fulfillment—which would act as a significant marker of the last days. He also urges Christians to keep watch not only on Damascus but also on Jerusalem, which continues to play a central role in end-time prophecy.

Comfort emphasizes that in this middle of crisis, humanity’s greatest need is not political resolution but spiritual salvation. He explains the gospel message simply: all people have sinned, broken God’s Law and are under judgment. But through repentance and faith in Jesus—who lived without sin, died for the sins of the world and rose from the dead—anyone can receive eternal life.

Finally, he also gives a profound reminder for the end times from 1 Thessalonians 5:3: “For when they shall say, ‘Peace and safety’; then sudden destruction cometh upon them.” As calls for peace grow louder amid escalating global tensions, Comfort warns that false security could lull many into spiritual complacency.
