For many believers, the most difficult seasons aren’t marked by obvious defeat—they’re marked by uncomfortable change. Doors begin closing, familiar routines disappear, and relationships shift, leaving many to wonder whether they’ve somehow missed God’s plan.
According to Alwyn Uys, those moments may actually be evidence that God is preparing His people for greater fruitfulness.
In a recent prophetic message following his move from the United States back to his native South Africa, Uys shared how a simple experience at home became a powerful spiritual reminder that God often removes what no longer belongs before leading believers into something new.
After spending nearly a year living in America, Uys said he sensed the Lord calling him back to South Africa for a new assignment. While the transition involved a physical relocation, he believes the deeper work God was doing had nothing to do with geography.
“I just felt this huge transition in my heart,” Uys said. “I knew that this transition isn’t just geographically, but something is shifting—that God is up to something.”
He believes many Christians are experiencing a similar season, one where the Holy Spirit is stirring hearts with the unmistakable sense that change is coming.
“I know that so many of you… God is also transitioning you—not just geographically—but something is shifting in your life, and you can feel it, and you know it,” he said.
When Uys returned home to South Africa, one unexpected sight immediately caught his attention. The plants that had been cared for during his absence had flourished so much that they had outgrown their containers.
To prepare them for continued growth, they first needed to be pruned.
That ordinary moment became a prophetic illustration.

“I believe that God is busy doing the same thing in your life,” Uys said. “In this transition period, there are certain things that need to stay behind, that cannot go with you.”
He explained that God’s pruning isn’t always about removing sinful or unhealthy things. Sometimes, He removes good things that were effective in a previous season but would hinder growth in the next one.
“He’s pruning relationships. He’s pruning habits. He’s pruning systems and ways and things that used to work in the past,” Uys said. “He’s cutting them off in this season in order for you to thrive in the next season.”
Pointing to John 15:2, Uys emphasized Jesus’ words that every fruitful branch is pruned “that it may bear more fruit.”
The significance lies in the fact that God prunes branches that are already producing fruit.
“So, just because God is taking certain things away in your life—that they have worked in previous seasons—it doesn’t mean that they are bad,” he said. “It just means that you cannot take them with you into this next season.”
Rather than resisting God’s work, Uys encouraged believers to surrender fully to the Lord’s leadership, trusting that every cut serves a greater purpose.
“It’s almost like a gardener walking around with dead branches… all day as he continues his work,” he said. “Once God prunes something in your life, set it aside… and allow God to bring about those fresh connections in this season, those fresh revelations in this season.”
For fellow believers navigating unexpected transitions, Uys’ message offers a timely reminder that pruning is not punishment—it is preparation.
While letting go of familiar comforts can be painful, Scripture consistently shows that God trims what is fruitful so that it will produce even greater harvest. The season that feels like loss today may ultimately prove to be the very process through which God prepares His people for the promotion, purpose and fruitfulness that lie ahead.
