Post-Duke, UCLA Allows Muslim Call to Prayer

Muslims praying on an athletic field at UCLA

When Duke renounced their plans to host a Muslim call to prayer from their bell tower, some universities were perplexed, namely UCLA.

The Californian college has an Islamic student association, as well as an Islamic newspaper. The call to prayer, known as adhan, has been broadcast, proclaiming “Allah is most great” across the campus.

A video was posted earlier this week showing the adhan sounding through the student center and students gravitating toward the athletic field to pray.

The video, posted on YouTube, has drawn both support and anger from viewers.

“How about instead of Americans becoming subservant, good little slaves biting their tongues for the sake of political correctness, we learn to stand up and say what is right and what is wrong,” posted user Gabriel Haynes. “Call an ace an ace, and a spade a spade. We were a Christian nation founded on the principles of the Bible. Through the guise of political correctness our foundation has been eroded away. God help us all.”

“Will they be broadcasting the Lord’s prayer over the loudspeakers right after this? Oh silly me. It’s only Christianity which is barred from the public square,” posted user cyberspace501.

Many questioned the validity of the practice, asking where the money to broadcast the prayer comes from, as UCLA is a publicly funded university.

What do you think? Should UCLA broadcast the adhan?
