Bible prophecy scholars Mondo Gonzales and Graham Keelan say the United Kingdom’s recent openness to recognizing a Palestinian state reflects both political pressure and a spiritual blindness that ignores biblical warnings about dividing Israel’s land.

In a discussion on the Israel-Palestine conflict, Gonzales and Keelan examined the geopolitical fallout of Hamas’ Oct. 7, 2023, terror attack, the international push for a two-state solution, and the biblical implications of such a move. Keelan, speaking from England, compared the current political climate to 1947, when the British Labour government withdrew from the region and shifted away from its pro-Zionist wartime stance.
Keelan argued that Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s position changed after pressure from Labour MPs concerned about losing seats with large Muslim populations. “It’s a complete fudge,” he said, criticizing the UK’s conditional offer of recognition as a political tool to pressure Israel without holding Hamas to the same standards.
The two warned that recognizing Palestinian statehood under current conditions ignores the realities on the ground, including Hamas’ refusal to accept Israel’s right to exist and the Palestinian Authority’s lack of democratic governance. Gonzales noted that past land concessions, such as Israel’s 2005 Gaza withdrawal, were met not with peace but with increased attacks.
Both men framed the debate in prophetic terms, citing Joel 3’s warning against dividing Israel’s land and Zechariah 12’s prophecy that Jerusalem will become a “burdensome stone” to the nations. They stressed that while modern Israel is not walking in full obedience to God, pointing to issues such as abortion and LGBTQ promotion, the land remains God’s covenant possession given to the descendants of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.
“This is the most destined piece of land on the planet,” Keelan said, warning that attempts by world powers to impose a two-state solution will not bring peace but move the nations closer to the biblical “time of Jacob’s trouble.”

Gonzales emphasized the need for a gospel-centered approach rather than merely political advocacy. “The light is the light of the gospel and of righteousness,” he said, urging Christians to avoid idolizing the modern state of Israel while still recognizing God’s promises for its ultimate restoration.

As a person born in UK but becoming a US citizen in 1982, I am distressed to see the failure of the UK government, by ignoring the biblical covenant concerning the land promised to Abraham and his descendants. I believe the British Empire collapsed because of a similar lack of support for Jewish people wanting to return to their homeland after the Second World War.
I am praying and fasting for the UK government to come to their senses.
I agree with Rod, but it may be far worse than we think. I remember some years back watching an interview with a Christian online. I can’t remember his name not can I find it again. The gist of the interview was that every time America negotiated a peace deal in the middle East and Israel had to give up land then within the week a natural disaster happened in America. One of those disasters was hurricane Katrina. The worst of these disasters was in an area the size of the land given up. It is an eye for an eye sort of response. Some years ago a friend had a vision as he was walking in the centre of Dundee. He saw a great fissure open up all along the high street. It may be symbolic or a vision of what is to come, time will tell.
