As cultural battles continue to intensify across America, one Florida county has chosen to shine a spotlight on something increasingly rare in the public square: faith and family.
The Pinellas County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved a proclamation recognizing June 2026 as “Faith and Family Month,” highlighting the role that faith communities, families and volunteer service play in strengthening local communities.
According to local reports, all seven commissioners supported the proclamation, which encourages community engagement, youth development and charitable outreach through faith-based organizations.
Commissioner Chris Latvala, who introduced the measure, said the idea was inspired by similar efforts elsewhere in the Tampa Bay region.
“To me, it’s just a reminder for people of all faiths that faith is important, and it’s important for everyday life, and obviously family is important,” Latvala stated per WTSP 10 Tampa Bay.
This is a reminder that long before governments issued proclamations or cultural movements emerged, God established the family as the foundational building block of society.
Genesis 1:27 declares, “So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.”

In Genesis 2:24, Scripture says, “Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.”
These verses reveal that family was not humanity’s invention. It was God’s idea.
Throughout Scripture, the health of a nation is often connected to the health of its families. Moses repeatedly instructed parents to teach God’s commands diligently to their children. The psalmist described children as a heritage from the Lord. The prophet Malachi declared that God seeks “godly offspring.”
In the New Testament, the family becomes a living picture of Christ and His church. Marriage reflects covenant. Parenthood reflects discipleship. The home becomes one of the primary places where faith is passed from one generation to the next.
This is why discussions about family matter so deeply to believers. They are not merely social conversations. They are spiritual ones.
The Pinellas County proclamation may be ceremonial, but it raises an important question for Christians everywhere: Have we allowed culture to redefine what God has already defined?
At a time when confusion about identity, marriage and purpose continues to grow, we have an opportunity to return to the blueprint found in Scripture.
