The Middle East is once again on a knife-edge as the USS Abraham Lincoln carrier strike group draws closer to the coast of Iran. With reports of mass executions, collapsing regime confidence and the possibility of U.S. intervention, some are asking if the world is witnessing more than geopolitical maneuvering — perhaps the rumblings of a prophetic realignment in the region.
According to The U.S. Sun, the Ayatollah, Ali Khamenei, is believed to be hiding in an “underground bunker” due to fear of being killed by airstrikes from the United States.
According to global security expert Michael Letts, CEO of Invest USA, this positioning is intentional. “We have been very clear that when this started, when the dissident started demanding freedom and removal from the corruption of the government that is in place, the administration told is there we had said that we would be backing the dissident,” Letts explained in an interview with CBN News.
The Iranian regime, fearing the momentum of its own citizens who have been protesting for their freedom, reverted to force. “They began to make arrests. And then when the arrest didn’t work too well, they [began] to actually shoot people in the streets,” Letts said.
As Letts pointed out, President Trump has not been silent on the matter. The administration warned Tehran that those who carry out executions would be held personally responsible: “For those who are killing the dissident, we will be keeping a list and keeping track.” Letts believes that message shook Iran’s power structure, noting that military and security officials now fear accountability “even when an administration falls.”
There are also indications of panic among Iran’s leadership. Letts revealed that intelligence sources indicate the Ayatollah, his son, and other senior figures are “now beginning to move their assets out of Iran to Dubai and to other places.” He added pointedly: “Doesn’t sound to me like it’s a person that thinks he’s going to keep his job long when he’s moving his money around.”
Speculation has emerged about whether the U.S. could capture Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei in a daring special operation similar to the extraction of Venezuela’s Nicolás Maduro. While Iran has historically been considered a harder target, Letts says the battlefield has changed. “We put into play military hardware unseen anywhere in the world before,” he said of the Venezuela operation.
With Russia reportedly offering asylum and aircraft allegedly prepared for evacuation, time may be short. But Letts believes the Iranian people are not finished: “They crack down, there’s a little bit of a lull, then they come back even harder. We expect them to be coming back harder very shortly. And when that occurs, we expect this regime will fall.”
Now the world must simply wait to see what happens next in Iran’s fight for freedom as the United States attempts to bring peace to the Middle East.
