Hamas has informed Egyptian and Qatari mediators that it has agreed to a new ceasefire-hostage deal, raising cautious hopes for progress in ending the Gaza war.
As reported by The Jerusalem Post, a source familiar with the discussions confirmed Monday that Hamas conveyed its acceptance of the latest proposal, which would see “the release of ten living Israeli hostages in return for a 60-day ceasefire, and the release of 150 terrorists serving life sentences.”

An Israeli official told the paper that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is reviewing the proposal but emphasized that it falls short of Israel’s core demand for a comprehensive agreement covering all hostages. “Israel’s position, which includes the release of all the hostages and other conditions to end the war, has not changed,” the official said.
Details of the Proposal
The framework includes a suspension of Israeli military operations in Gaza for two months, according to an Egyptian official cited by Reuters. This pause could serve as a pathway toward a broader deal. Axios further reported that Hamas’ response “aligns 98%” with a plan put forward by U.S. President Donald Trump’s envoy, Steve Witkoff, which Israel had previously accepted.

Qatari Al-Araby TV reported that a high-level meeting in Cairo between Qatar’s Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim bin Jaber Al Thani, Palestinian factions, Egypt’s intelligence minister, and Hamas representatives was “positive” and showed “a heightened sense of responsibility and determination to end the war.”
Sources told The Jerusalem Post that Hamas received the updated ceasefire proposal in that meeting, which also included other Palestinian factions. Al-Arabiya reported that most factions accepted the plan, though Hamas asked for additional time to deliberate. The proposal reportedly includes “a staged release of the remaining hostages and a full Israeli withdrawal from the Gaza Strip.”
Egypt has reportedly pressed Hamas to remain in Cairo until reaching a final decision, even setting a limited deadline to respond.
Israel’s Position
Despite signs of movement, Netanyahu’s office reiterated over the weekend that Israel would only accept a deal ensuring the release of all hostages at once, alongside strict security conditions.
“The Prime Minister’s Office clarifies that Israel will agree to a deal on condition that all the hostages are released in one go, and in accordance with our conditions for ending the war, which include the disarming of Hamas, the demilitarization of the Gaza Strip, Israeli control of the Gaza perimeter, and the installation of non-Hamas and non-Palestinian Authority governance that will live in peace with Israel,” the statement said.
