What if downloading a video game required you to prove your age first?
That possibility may soon become reality in Europe, and while the proposal is framed around protecting children online, it points to a much bigger technological shift Christians cannot afford to ignore: the accelerating normalization of digital verification.
According to Breitbart News, the European Union’s forthcoming “EU Kids Act” would introduce mandatory age checks across a sweeping range of online services, including gaming platforms. Social media, video-sharing services and artificial intelligence chatbots would also fall under the proposed framework.
For gamers, the change is particularly striking. Breitbart, citing Euractiv reporting, said online gaming services would have to verify a user’s age before allowing children to download games.
Think about that for a moment. This sounds familiar.
Charisma has been tracking the rapid advancement of digital identification as governments worldwide explore ways to make digital credentials part of everyday life. In the United Kingdom, King Charles III announced earlier this year that his government would move forward with Digital ID to modernize access to public services.
Then there is the private sector.
Charisma also reported on Apple’s expansion into digital identification after the technology giant introduced Digital ID in Apple Wallet, allowing eligible users to create an identity credential using information from a U.S. passport and present it at participating TSA checkpoints.

Different countries. Different companies. Different purposes.
But the same underlying reality keeps emerging: identity and access are becoming increasingly intertwined in the digital world.
The European Commission insists its age-verification technology is being built with privacy in mind. The system is intended to let users show they meet an age requirement without unnecessarily disclosing their identity or other personal information.
Protecting children from pornography, exploitation and harmful online content is unquestionably important. But child protection does not eliminate legitimate questions about what kind of infrastructure is being constructed in the process.
Prophetic teacher Perry Stone has previously sounded the alarm over precisely this broader technological trajectory. As Charisma reported in its examination of digital IDs and the mark of the beast, Stone has warned about a future in which centralized digital systems could potentially affect banking, employment and access to ordinary services.
That brings Revelation 13 into startling focus.
Scripture describes a coming system under the Antichrist in which economic participation will ultimately be controlled, declaring that “no one may buy or sell except one who has the mark” (Rev. 13:17, NKJV).
Digital IDs. Biometric verification. Digital wallets. Age-verification technology. Each may be introduced for a different reason—security, convenience, fraud prevention or protecting children—but together they demonstrate something extraordinary: Technology now exists that can make access conditional upon digital verification.
That is what makes this story bigger than video games.
The prophetic question isn’t whether an age check is the mark of the beast. It isn’t.
The question is whether the world is becoming increasingly comfortable with the kind of digital gatekeeping that could enable unprecedented levels of control.
The technology is here. The infrastructure is expanding. And Christians would be wise to watch where it goes next.
