A Florida government meeting took an unexpected turn when a woman covered in a black Islamic veil began playing the Muslim call to prayer, leading to her removal by law enforcement.
According to Fox News, the incident happened on Oct. 27 during a Pinellas County commission meeting in Clearwater, Florida, as tensions continued to rise over the expansion of a local mosque.
The woman approached the podium during public comments, but instead of speaking, she played a recording of the Islamic call to prayer. After nearly a minute, Board Chairman Dave Eggers stepped in.
“Ma’am, you’re going to have to stop … stop the music, stop the tape,” Eggers said.
However, the woman refused to stop the recording, prompting a sheriff’s deputy to escort her out of the building. Her removal sparked further arguments among meeting attendees.
“We don’t allow taped things,” Eggers explained. “You can record the meeting, but we don’t allow taped activity like that.”
The incident comes as residents continue to debate the proposed expansion of the Masjid Al Rahman mosque near Tarpon Springs.
Commissioners voted 4-3 on Oct. 13 to approve a land-use amendment allowing the mosque to replace its existing building with a larger facility.
Yet the building’s size isn’t the only thing raising questions.
As The Beaches Beacon reported, Commissioner Vince Nowicki questioned why the mosque was listed in county documents as a “community assembly facility” rather than being identified directly as a mosque.
County officials maintained that the description followed existing zoning terminology.

Some residents also raised concerns about the expansion of Islam in their community, particularly regarding women’s rights and the values associated with the religion.
“Expansion of the ideology of Islam is not good for women’s rights,” one woman told commissioners, according to Fox News.
Others defended the mosque, pointing to its history in the community and saying its members had not caused problems for surrounding residents.
For the church, this is another reminder to stand firm in biblical truth, no matter what. As these conversations continue, Christians must remain rooted in God’s Word, refusing to compromise their convictions while demonstrating the love and truth of Jesus Christ.
