3 Killed, Including Christian College Athlete, in New Mexico Shooting

Three people were killed and seven wounded during a shooting at a house party in Hobbs, New Mexico. One of those killed was a Christian college athlete, 22-year-old Lamar Lee-Kane Jr.

Lee-Kane played basketball at the University of the Southwest in Hobbs. His teammate, Rontrell Hills, was one of those injured in the shooting.

According to a GoFundMe set up for Lee-Kane’s parents, Lee-Kane was “well-loved by classmates, teammates, friends and family alike. His infectious smile and kind heart brightened rooms everywhere he went. A graduate of Calvin Coolidge High School, Lamar Jr. attended the University of the Southwest, where he played men’s basketball and planned on following his life’s passion by majoring in sports management. Unfortunately, that promise was cut short by a senseless act of violence overnight Aug. 24, 2019.”

Police responded to calls about gun fire at 12:48 a.m. Sunday, reports CNN. Authorities later arrested 19-year-old Bishop Henderson while investigating the shooting, according to Fox News. Henderson faces charges of aggravated battery.

“There is a possibility of additional charges in this case as it is still a very active investigation,” said the department, according to an ABC affiliate.
