Dayne Kamela isn’t just another voice in the conversation about mental health—he’s a living testimony to the power of faith in the face of suffering.
“When I was 22 years old, I was diagnosed with a mental health illness that has no cure,” he says.
Doctors told him he had bipolar disorder 1 and would likely need medication for the rest of his life. But rather than let that diagnosis define him, Kamela made a bold choice: “I would not speak this sickness over my life. I would not give it any more power…because my identity was in Christ.”

In a moment of prayer, everything changed. “Right then and there in that moment, I knew that I knew that I knew that I had just been healed,” he recalls.
That encounter led him to write “Choose Prayer Not Despair: How to Transform Your Mental Health God’s Way,” a resource filled with Scripture, personal stories and tools for battling anxiety, fear and worry through faith.
“If you’re someone who battles in your mental health, I’m here to tell you that there is a way out. That through your relationship with Jesus, you can be healed and made whole and walk in freedom,” Kamela encourages.
His story isn’t about ignoring medical advice—it’s about reclaiming identity through God’s truth. “We struggle each day to know who we are, and that’s found in God’s Word,” he says.
For anyone fighting internal battles, Kamela offers hope rooted in Christ: “That mental health challenge you’re facing does not have to be the rest of your life.”
