What Did Jesus Preach?

In the Western church, there seems to be a drastic decline in biblical teaching about sin and its consequences. We also hear very little of the need for repentance, the works that identify a true Christian, the fear of the Lord and the warning of an eternal hell. This is partially due to a culture that doesn’t want to offend anyone. Instead, a compromised gospel is being preached under a false banner of love and grace. This only serves to produce a generation insensitive to obeying God’s Word. The Truth has become subjective and watered down; and in today’s church, it has even been used to affirm a sinful lifestyle. It’s no wonder we see rampant compromise inside the walls of many churches as well as shocking tolerance of many things the Bible clearly warns against.

Let’s look at Jesus. Did Jesus preach a politically correct, crowd-pleasing message? Did Jesus compromise His message so He wouldn’t offend anyone? What exactly did Jesus preach?

A lot of people mistakenly believe that Jesus preached only love and acceptance. The repeated phrases we hear in defense of sin are “God is love” or “Love thy neighbor.” However, while Jesus modeled love for our fellow man, He also preached repentance and obedience. In fact, the first word out of the mouth of Jesus was repent, as recorded in Matthew 4:17. If someone believes that His message was just one of love and acceptance, they miss the point of Jesus’ ministry. He came to save, to restore, to heal and, most importantly, to give us a new life! Let’s not be mislead by the wave of unstable teachings birthed by unsound doctrine in these critical days we are living in. {eoa}
