Long before L.A. Marzulli became one of Christianity’s most prolific voices on biblical prophecy, UFO phenomena and the Nephilim, he was a teenage hippie living in a teepee in the woods — and he almost didn’t make it out alive.
It was 1968. Marzulli, then 18, had been drinking from a mountain stream contaminated by cattle upstream. What followed was a near-death experience that would quietly shape the next five decades of his ministry.
“They rushed me to the hospital,” Marzulli recounted. “By this time, the fever’s like 103 and climbing. By the time I’m at the hospital, it’s like 104 and climbing… and the last thing I remember, it was 106.”
With doctors placing him in an ice blanket to fight the fever, Marzulli’s consciousness left his body entirely.
Three Realms, Two Light Beings and One Garden Unlike Anything on Earth
What Marzulli experienced next wasn’t a single vision — it was a multi-layered journey through what he describes as distinct spiritual realms, guided by two luminous beings.
“These two entities, light beings, come down and they extend their arms like this,” he explained to host Randy Kay on the Heaven Encounters podcast. “So it was the three of us. And up we go.”

The beings carried him to three different locations before his final destination. The first was a desert-like landscape filled with terror. “It looked like the Sahara desert… and in the distance were these amorphous, blob-like entities… coming at me very slowly. And I was terrified.”
The second was a casino-like scene of revelry, which upon closer inspection revealed something sinister. “In my peripheral vision, everyone has greenish skin that’s pressed right to their skulls. In other words, they’re ghouls.”
The third was a magnificent mansion, ornate and perfect — yet deeply unsettling in its own way. “After a while,” Marzulli said, “I realized there was no people. There was no one around, and I was alone. And I didn’t want to be alone.”
It was his final destination that left him forever changed: a garden of breathtaking beauty where every flower sang its own song.
“The colors are unlike anything you’ve ever seen,” he said. “Every single flower as I was walking through this garden was singing a different song — to the King. I didn’t know it at the time, but that’s what they’re singing to.”
Forgiveness: The Key He Discovered in the Afterlife
Now 75 and the author of more than 15 books, Marzulli’s newest release, The Waiting Room, translates his supernatural journey into fiction, with a message he calls the key to everything: forgiveness.

“When we hold unforgiveness in us — bitterness, anger, resentment — that’s like a stew,” he told Kay. “That’s a stew in a human being. And it’s on the back burner, but it’s perking, it’s boiling.”
The novel’s protagonist, Bob Frisbee, flatlines and finds himself in a beautifully appointed room where he is confronted — spoke-by-spoke on a spiritual wheel — with every person he has refused to forgive. The guide, Mr. O, walks him through each unresolved wound.
“Forgiveness is the key,” Marzulli said. “It sets us free.”
Host Randy Kay, himself a clinically documented near-death experiencer, affirmed the theme: “Forgiveness was at the crux of it… the Lord said, ‘Do you have aught against anyone?’ It wasn’t condemning…”
A Life Built on What Lies Beyond the Veil
Marzulli’s NDE, he believes, uniquely positioned him to spend his career exposing counterfeit spirituality and demonic deception masquerading as alien phenomena.
“I think the Lord allows stuff like that because He’s going to use it,” he reflected. His mission statement, which he says God gave him years into his ministry: “To expose the deception of the prince of the power of the air and to herald the return of the King — Jesus.”
