New allegations of sexual misconduct have emerged against Michael Tait, the former lead singer of Newsboys and co-founder of DC Talk, deepening the scandal that first came to light earlier this month.

The latest accusations, reported in a June 13, investigation by The Guardian, follow a prior exposé and confession from Tait and include additional claims of inappropriate behavior, some involving underage individuals, dating back to the early 2000s.

The fresh wave of testimonies has reignited concern within the Christian music industry, with several men coming forward to describe deeply troubling encounters with Tait during the height of his career. Many of the allegations center on the abuse of power, manipulation and a recurring pattern of alleged misconduct involving young fans, alcohol and drugs.

As reported by The Christian Post, one individual, now an adult, said he was only a teenager when he met Tait and was introduced to a lifestyle that included substance use and crossing moral boundaries.

Another man, who spoke under a pseudonym, said the trauma he experienced caused him to walk away from his faith for a season. “Tait was presented as the pinnacle of godliness,” he told The Guardian. “To use that image to do harm broke something in me.”

These new claims come just days after The Roys Report published an initial investigation into Tait’s conduct, backed by over 50 sources.

That report prompted Tait to issue a public apology and confession on June 10 via Instagram. In the post, titled “My Confession — June 10, 2025,” Tait acknowledged years of drug and alcohol abuse and admitted to having “at times, touched men in an unwanted sensual way.” He said he does not deny the core of the accusations, although he disputes some details.

“Recent reports of my reckless and destructive behavior, including drug and alcohol abuse and sexual activity, are sadly, largely true,” Tait wrote. He also shared that he stepped away from Newsboys in January to pursue treatment and had completed six weeks of rehabilitation in Utah. “I want to say I’m sorry to everyone I have hurt. I am truly sorry.”

The latest report from The Guardian adds multiple new voices to the growing list of those speaking out. One accuser, now a videographer based in Nashville, told the outlet that knowledge of Tait’s behavior was “so intrinsic to Christian music” that speaking up felt nearly impossible. “There are three types of people in Nashville,” he said. “Those who are terrified, those who are waiting for justice, and those who will cash a check with Tait despite knowing the truth.”

In response to the unfolding scandal, Newsboys issued a statement expressing sorrow and disbelief. “When he left the band in January, Michael confessed to us and our management that he ‘had been living a double-life,’” they wrote. “But we never imagined that it could be this bad.”

Christian radio networks, including K-LOVE, have since pulled Tait’s music from rotation.
