As the daughter of Washington insider and respected conservative strategist and author Doug Wead, Camille Wead has a lot to say. And the way she’s saying it is drawing attention to “the Blonde Politician,” as her social media moniker describes her. Her hilarious YouTube videos, filled with tongue-in-cheek remarks on all things political and controversial, are growing in popularity.
But Wead says there’s real intentionality amid the fun. “I love the lightheartedness behind hard discussions,” she says, commenting on the humor she’s seen her father use through the years. “This kind of came out, I guess, when we were all forced to shut down and stay in our homes. I really got hooked on the news and politics and what’s going on. I kind of grew up in politics; I grew up outside of Washington, D.C. And I thought it was hilarious how hypocritical and ironic liberals could be and how oftentimes conservatives are made fun of. And I thought, Well, we’re missing out on some laughter here. There’s a lot to explore, a lot of humor going on.”
Wead finds that humor in everything from Joe Biden’s incessant throat-clearing to the COVID-19 vaccine, and her cleverly designed videos showcase the fun. In a recent video, she portrayed dual roles: a woman seeking a COVID-19 shot and the grumpy administrator who forces her to answer a series of politically charged questions to “qualify” for the vaccine. “It’s kind of in some ways similar to today’s standards of liberal ‘logic,’ with ‘Are you a supporter of BLM? Are you a supporter of all these movements that the media or huge political leaders on the Democratic side would really want to endorse and support?'” she says.
In this video, the supposed administrator asks her client, “Did you vote for Trump?” After receiving a negative response, she asks, “How many times did you vote for Biden?”
“Sixteen,” the vaccine-seeker eagerly responds. And the comedy continues from there.
Wead says she received a mixed response to that video. “Some people thought it was really funny; some people get offended,” she says. “But most of the people who see it, they think it’s true; they think it’s sad. … Anywhere, any place that they need to go to, there’s always some government bureaucrat telling you what you have to do, or you have to prove yourself to someone in some ways of who you support or how you were an upstanding citizen.”
