If you’ve been keeping up with the news lately, you know government agencies love to attack President Donald Trump. Just recall how Democrats brought up false accusations about him colluding with the Russians during his election campaign. Thankfully, the Mueller report was a vindication of sorts, but the barrage of attacks continues.
Jim Bakker says he can relate to Trump in this regard. When a newspaper exposed how he had a one-night stand, the controversy surrounding it became national headlines as his ministry began to nosedive. As one thing led to another, the government tried to get him 45 years in prison. Respected attorney Alan Dershowitz even defended him on his appeal to get his sentence overturned.
By God’s grace, Jim was in prison only five years. During that time, God deeply transformed Jim’s heart, and now, God is using him mightily through his new ministry, Morningside.
Jim recently invited me on his program, The Jim Bakker Show, where we discussed the similarities between the government attacks against him and those against Trump. You can listen to an excerpt of that interview on my “Strang Report” podcast right here or in this article.
“Donald Trump and I have so much in common,” Jim said on his show. “He had every agency of government trying to destroy him. And [a couple months ago], he was exonerated. And they still don’t want him to be exonerated.”
Jim is absolutely right. Never before in American history have government agencies worked so hard to unseat a duly elected president. It’s as if the left went crazy after Hillary Clinton lost, so they started grasping at straws to the point of pursuing completely false allegations.
Alan Dershowitz says there’s no statute against collusion, but even so, the Mueller report indicated there were no signs of collusion between Russia and Trump’s campaign. Yet it seemed as though every agency was trying to prove otherwise. Again, Jim says he can relate.
“When they put me in prison, they brought the Postal Department, the IRS, every agency of government—I could go on and on,” he says. “It was the United States of America versus Jim Bakker. At that point, I guess my ministry was amazing—it was amazing to me. It was one of the largest television ministries ever in the history of the world. And our park was the third-greatest-attended parks in America. We had 86 services a week!”
People called Jim’s park, Heritage USA, a theme park, but Jim says it was a “Jesus park.” People would spend a week or two there just to soak up the presence of God and receive ministry.
And yet, Jim says, “My enemies wanted me in prison.” Thankfully, God put people in Jim’s life strategically while he was in prison—all for the purpose of protecting and healing him. And as a result, God used Jim to help people draw closer to Him, even from his prison cell.
In fact, in my next “Strang Report” podcast, I want to share with you about a program Jim developed while in prison that changed many inmates’ lives. I think you’ll enjoy it, so keep tuning in to the show!
