    Christians, Jewish Leaders Protest Iran President Outside UN

    Christians joined with Jewish leaders Tuesday to protest the appearance of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad at the United Nations General Assembly this week.

    Representatives from the New York Board of Rabbis and Eagles' Wings' ministry formed a human chain outside the United Nations building in New York, singing and blowing a shofar to condemn the U.N.'s inclusion of Ahmadinejad, who has called for Israel to be "wiped off the map."

    Moroccan Convert Serving 15 Years for His Faith

    Nearly five years into the prison sentence of the only Christian in Morocco serving time for his faith, Moroccan Christians and advocates question the harsh measures of the Muslim state toward a man who dared speak openly about Jesus.



    By the end of December Jamaa Ait Bakrim, 46, will have been in prison for five years at Morocco's largest prison, Prison Centrale, in Kenitra. An outspoken Christian convert, Bakrim was sentenced to 15 years prison for "proselytizing" and destroying "the goods of others" in 2005 after burning two defunct utility poles located in front of his private business in a small town in south Morocco.

    Wheaton College celebrates new leadership Friday with the inauguration of Philip Graham Ryken as the eighth president of the 150-year-old school.

    State and local leaders, as well as trustees of 115 colleges are expected to join Wheaton trustees, faculty, students and alumni for the inauguration ceremony being held at the evangelical Christian school in Wheaton, Ill.

    Wheaton is often referred to as the Harvard of evangelical colleges, and U.S. News & World Report frequently ranks it among the best liberal arts colleges in the nation.

    More than 80 prominent Christian leaders are endorsing a 40-day fast leading up to the midterm elections that kicks off Sunday with a simulcast event from Washington, D.C.

    Organized by California pastor Jim Garlow and Prison Fellowship founder Chuck Colson, Pray & Act has gained support from a cross-section of Christians, including Bible teacher Kenneth Copeland, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, Generals International co-founder Cindy Jacobs, Southern Baptist Convention leader Richard Land, Atlanta pastor Creflo Dollar and Campus Crusade for Christ co-founder Vonette Bright.

    A New York-based ministry that co-organizes the annual Day of Prayer for the Peace of Jerusalem is coupling its intercession with action by raising funds to help the poor in Israel.


    Eagles' Wings ministry hopes to feed at least 1,000 impoverished families in Jerusalem and other Israeli cities this year as part of its ongoing mission to bless the people of Israel through prayer.

    Charismatic Minister Bill Basansky Dies

    Charismatic minister William "Bill" Basansky died in his sleep Thursday at his home in Fort Myers, Fla. He was 78.

    He and his wife, Beatrice, spent 40 years in ministry, planting churches and establishing Bible schools across the former Soviet Union. A former pastor and the author of 13 books, Basansky also was known for his Word-Faith teaching that focused on healing and living a victorious Christian life.

    Attorney Says Radical Muslim Hacked Pro-Family Group’s Website

    A Florida attorney who represented runaway convert Rifqa Bary says his organization's website was destroyed by a radical Muslim hacker because of his involvement in the teen's case.

    John Stemberger, president of the Florida Family Policy Council in Orlando, said a hacker left obscene messages on the council's website Friday before disabling its back-end controls and erasing most of the data.

    Christian Author, Historian Peter Marshall Dies

    Christian author and historian Peter Marshall died Wednesday evening after suffering a massive heart attack at a gym in Orleans, Mass. He was 70.


    The son of the late U.S. Senate Chaplain Peter Marshall and author Catherine Marshall, he was known for his writing on America's Christian heritage, including the best-selling books The Light and the Glory, From Sea to Shining Sea and Sounding Forth the Trumpet.

    Wife of Gospel Artist Marvin Sapp Dies

    The wife of popular gospel artist Marvin Sapp died Thursday after an 18-month battle with colon cancer. MaLinda Sapp was 43.

    A licensed counselor, Sapp was administrative pastor at the church her husband founded, Lighthouse Full Life Center Church in Grand Rapids, Mich. She also served as Marvin Sapp's manager and was credited as executive producer on many of his recordings.

  • Florida Pastor Cancels Quran Burning

    Florida pastor Terry Jones said he is canceling his planned "International Burn a Koran Day," claiming  the group behind the proposed mosque near Ground Zero agreed to relocate it.

    Jones told reporters Thursday afternoon he planned to meet with Feisal Abdul Rauf, the imam behind the controversial Islamic center, on Saturday. Rauf, however, denied that he had agreed to a meeting and refuted claims that the mosque would be moved. Imam Muhammad Musri, president of the Islamic Society of Central Florida, told the Associated Press he offered to arrange the New York meeting but said no deal had been reached to move the Islamic center.

    Prayers for Spiritual Awakening to Mark 9/11 Anniversary

    Christians nationwide will mark the ninth anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks by gathering at their county courthouses to pray for God's mercy and a spiritual awakening in the U.S.

    The third annual Cry Out America is expected to draw participants from every state and more than 830 counties. Grassroots supporters will pray from noon to 1 p.m. Saturday at their county seats, repenting and crying out for revival in their regions.

    A Massachusetts Bible distributor says it will give away two copies of the Quran for every one a Florida church destroys Saturday during its "International Burn a Koran Day."

    The Massachusetts Bible Society, also known as MassBible, said it would distribute the Islamic holy book at prisons, hospitals and shelters to counter what it calls "an act of hatred against Muslims and the Islamic faith."

    A group of Christians plans to gather quietly in New York this weekend to remember the events of another Sept. 11 that they believe carry prophetic significance today.

    The three-day "No Surrender" solemn assembly begins Friday and features prayer leader Dutch Sheets, and marks the anniversary of a failed peace talk in New York on Sept. 11, 1776, between British Lord Admiral Richard Howe and Second Continental Congress members Benjamin Franklin, John Adams and Edward Rutledge.

  • Christian Leader: Quran Burning Could Endanger Persecuted Church

    The head of an international advocacy organization for persecuted Christians is calling on a Florida church to cancel its plans to burn the Quran Saturday, saying the move could bring a backlash of attacks.

    Carl Moeller, president of Open Doors USA, said the protest to commemorate the ninth anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks could endanger Christians in predominantly Muslim nations and violates Jesus' command to love one's neighbor.

    Thousands Flock to Alabama Revival Meetings

    Former Brownsville Revival leader John Kilpatrick says the blind are seeing, the lame walking and the deaf hearing at what he believes may become another long-running revival.

    Since mid-August, he said, thousands have been flocking to revival services being held four nights a week at the convention center in Mobile, Ala., where Kilpatrick now leads Church of His Presence.
