“That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you a spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of Him” (Ephesians 1:17).
Paul is praying that the Father would enable us to see into the supernatural realms of wisdom and revelation so that we would truly know God’s glory.
Beloved, can you imagine anything that could be greater or more fulfilling to our lives than fully knowing God? Think about everything that we all want in life. We want to be happy, right? Isn’t that what people are searching for – whether they are trying to find it in the accumulation of things, or through accolades from others. At the core, human beings are creatures of great desire, and the natural man’s ultimate longing is for happiness.
But hear this, when we come into a deep, meaningful, and abiding relationship with God, we are going to get strong; and when we get strong, we are going to be happy.
Knowing God is truly becoming who we were meant to be. It is being filled with supernatural light that enables us to see straight, think straight, and consistently overcome! Our attitude becomes right, mountains become molehills, and victories become the norm. We exist in the abundance of God’s Spirit. All of this is a result of us being intimately immersed in our Father.
Apostle Paul goes on to write: “I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened so that you will know what the hope of His calling is and what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints” Ephesians 1:18
I love that word: enlightened. We are not talking about a religion or some kind of humanism. We are talking about a real spiritual illumination – so that “you know that you know” and everything comes together. This kind of experiential reality that Father has called us to and is bringing us into, brings clarity, instills hope, and will withstand any challenges.

What does this mean?
God has a destiny for us that is bright, glorious, and full of hope. What is hope? Hope is the expectation of something good happening in one’s future, right? Hope is a promise for tomorrow.
Paul is saying: ‘I want you to know what is in front of you and where you are going. I want you to understand. I want you to be enlightened about the destiny that Father God has for you. You are going to be glorified with Messiah Jesus!
You are going to be in heaven surrounded by God’s presence, bathed in His bliss, and living in His eternal happiness. The glow of His countenance will forever rest on you, enveloping you while the glorious sound of heavenly music surrounds you.
Friend, this is the hope and the destination of our calling. Human words cannot adequately or fully communicate it. That is why Paul is praying for revelation that you’ll understand the great future that is yours in the God who called you.
What is yet to come for us is beyond “mind-blowing!”
“Things which eye has not seen and ear has not heard, and which have not entered the heart of man, all that God has prepared for those who love Him” (1 Corinthians 2:9).
And notice again in Ephesians 1:18 that Paul prays that we would know “what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints.”
Consider that: Our value begins with the fact that we are each personally made by the hand of the Creator in His very image.
“God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.” (Genesis 1:27)
There is something that God our creator sees in us that we cannot comprehend in the natural. There is something in us that is like a divine diamond. We are not our bodies. We are much, much more than we think we are.
God’s thoughts toward us are wonderful, extravagant, and purposeful.
‘For I know the plans that I have for you,’ declares the LORD, ‘plans for welfare and not for calamity to give you a future and a hope’ (Jeremiah 29:11).
Father’s value for us is immeasurable and unconditional. He knows our needs and will supply them willingly and lovingly.
“Look at the birds of the air, that they do not sow, nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not worth much more than they?” (Matthew 6:26)
Again, our heavenly Father has a magnificent, amazing, and never-ending future for us.
“But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in our transgressions, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), and raised us up with Him, and seated us with Him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, so that in the ages to come He might show the surpassing riches of His grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus” (Ephesians 2: 4-7).
The Creator of life loves you so intensely that He gave His own Son to die in your place before you ever repented.
“But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8)
Beloved, there is no greater goal and achievement than to fully know Father and to daily embrace and receive His love!
Soon we will meet Him face to face.
