The original Passover event contains rich symbolism that is relevant for us— even today. Its characters, location, and the role of the blood of an unblemished lamb all point to a reality that affects us all, thousands of years later.

Consider that God’s people, Israel (who are an illustration of the Church), were living under captivity in Egypt (which is a symbol of the world). They were oppressed by the powers of darkness that were being forced upon them by their enemy named Pharaoh (who is an image of Satan).

And, just like the devil today, Pharaoh hated God’s people and had no mercy on them. He only wanted them to obey him and subject them to his control through slavery. Pharaoh was obsessed with taking away their freedom. All of his efforts were so that the Israelites could not worship their God.

“But the quota of bricks which they were making previously, you shall impose on them; you are not to reduce any of it. Because they are lazy, therefore they cry out, ‘Let us go and sacrifice to our God,”’ (Exodus 5:8).

In other words, keep them busy—Sound familiar?

As God’s people today, we are living in a world where we find ourselves also being oppressed by the powers of darkness—led by Satan himself. We often succumb to the lies of the American way, the American Dream, and the world’s definition of happiness and success. We need to awaken from this false reality and realize this: Satan has one thing intended for us – to take us captive and separate us from the freedom that Yeshua brings.

But just like He did in Egypt, God has a plan. In an instant, Father changed the course of the entire nation of Israel by freeing them and bringing them to Himself. My brother and sister, that is why Passover is considered the Festival of Freedom. And, Father has the same desire and destiny for us.

Yeshua said, “So if the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed” (John 8:36).

I want to ask you—do you have a vision of freedom for yourself? Can you picture yourself as victorious, full of joy, and enveloped with supernatural peace that surpasses all understanding?

Do you believe that you can really be free?

Even though you may be struggling right now and experiencing disappointment or pain in your heart, I want you to know, beloved one, you are not always going to be feeling this way. God is in the process of bringing you into whole and absolute freedom. Believe me, there is something greater for you that God has planned, and it will make all your hardships and worries disappear.

“The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet. The grace of our Lord Jesus be with you,” (Romans 16:20).

But, be aware that the freedom that Father is bringing us into is often not something that happens all at once. It can be a process. For instance, even after the Lord delivered Israel out of Egypt, it was still 40 years before they reached their promised land. In fact, the Lord told Israel while they were in the wilderness, “I’m not going to drive out all these nations before you at once. You will not be able to occupy the land safely if I do it all at once. You would not be ready for it.”

“But I’m going to drive out your enemies from you little by little” (Exodus 23:30).

We may not be where we want to be today. But we need to appreciate that we are in the process of being transformed and we are much farther along than we were a year ago. Beloved, God is driving out our enemies, little by little, just like He did for Israel. As long as we “stay the course,” we will continue to make progress toward the ultimate goal — God Himself.

“This is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent,” (John 17:3).

“But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as from the Lord, the Spirit,” (2 Corinthians 3:18).

We are surely moving deeper into freedom. We are continually going forward, being transformed from grace to grace, from glory to glory, and strength to strength. We may not be experiencing total freedom today, but we are on a journey towards it. We are taking steps every day on a path towards perfection—as we are more and more being transformed into His likeness. And remember, our Father has promised that He will complete the good work that He has started in us.

“For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work among you will complete it by the day of Christ Jesus,” (Philippians 1: 6).

I want to call each and every one of us into freedom today as we move into the Holy season of Passover. 3,500 years ago, at the first Passover, God intervened in the lives of His chosen people. The ‘death Angel’ was averted by the blood that covered the doorpost and lintels of the Hebrew children’s homes. 2,000 years ago, Passover was ultimately fulfilled when Yeshua gave His life and shed His blood for you and me.

Passover is a Festival of Freedom. Accept your freedom, and know that you enter into experiential freedom progressively.

My dear brothers and sisters, let’s stay the course, keeping our eyes on Messiah Jesus and awaiting His soon return.

“For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive, who remain, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we will always be with the Lord,” (1 Thessalonians 4:16, 17).
