Former Gateway Church senior pastor, Robert Morris, was released from prison on Tuesday morning following his 2025 guilty plea of sexually abusing Cindy Clemishire in the 1980s, starting when she was just 12 years old.

According to CBS News, a notice that was automated by court officials documented that Robert Morris left the prison located in Pawhuska, Oklahoma, right after midnight.

Morris previously pled guilty to five counts of indecent or lewd acts with a child, according to NBC 5 News in Dallas. Morris served six months in jail with a 10-year suspended sentence. He is now to be on a nine and a half year probation period and must become a registered sex offender for the remainder of his life.

As NBC 5 noted, Morris’ attorneys noted that he pled guilty because “he wanted to accept responsibility for his conduct…Pastor Robert made it a point to ask that I tell Ms. Clemishire and her family that he sincerely apologizes.”

This news comes right after the Oklahoma House passed the “Cindy Clemishire Act,” which will create restrictions in the use of nondisclosure agreements when it comes to child abuse cases.
