Pastor Jack Hibbs is urging believers to take the topic of the Antichrist seriously as we race toward the end of time.

In a recent teaching on the Antichrist, Hibbs emphasized that Bible prophecy is meant to strengthen faith, not create fear. Pointing to Jesus’ words in John 14:29, he reminded listeners why Scripture reveals the future.

“Jesus said, ‘I have told you before it comes that when it does come to pass, you may believe,’” Hibbs said. “Bible prophecy, when taught correctly biblically, should lead others to a deeper faith.”

Hibbs explained that the Antichrist is often misunderstood. While many think only of a future world ruler, Scripture describes something broader already operating in society.

“Whenever we talk about the Antichrist, we’re talking about a system, we’re talking about a group and we’re talking about a person,” he said.

At its core, Hibbs believes the battle surrounding the Antichrist centers on one thing: human souls.

“The number one thing on the Antichrist agenda is actually the number one thing on the agenda of the Lord Jesus Christ, and that is the souls of men,” he said.

Tracing the origin of deception back to Genesis, Hibbs said the spirit of antichrist first appeared when Satan questioned God’s word in the Garden of Eden. Quoting the serpent’s words, he noted the pattern that still appears today: “Has God indeed said?”

“Doubt,” Hibbs explained. “Satan is speaking through this serpent… ‘Has God said?’ There’s a lot of that going on right now. ‘Is that what God really meant?’”

He warned believers to be cautious of voices that subtly undermine Scripture.

“If you’re listening to somebody and they say, ‘But is that what God really meant?’ … they sound just like Satan,” Hibbs said.

As Hibbs explains, the Antichrist will ultimately emerge as the culmination of this deception—presenting himself as a counterfeit savior.

“The word ‘anti’ means this,” he explained. “It means either instead of or in opposition to. And Christ is the word Christos—Messiah. Anti-Messiah.”

In other words, the coming figure will both oppose Jesus and attempt to replace Him.

“He is the anti-Messiah,” Hibbs said. “He’s against the Messiah… but also this Antichrist means not only opposition but as an impostor instead of—to offer oneself up instead of the true Christ.”

That counterfeit spirit, he added, is why Scripture strongly warns about false prophets and false teachers.

“God hates and will destroy all false prophets and false teachers,” Hibbs said. “Because false prophets and false teachers lead people astray.”

Yet despite growing deception in the world, Hibbs stressed that this ultimate evil deception is still being restrained by God.

“It’s God holding back the evil,” he said, referencing 2 Thessalonians 2. “And if God relaxes, the Antichrist appears.”

In a time of spiritual confusion and global upheaval, Hibbs’ warning is clear: deception and evil may be increasing, but the victory of Jesus is certain—and the call now is for every believer to stand firm in truth, remain watchful and keep their eyes fixed on the soon return of Jesus.
