Report: Now Rep. Jason Chaffetz May Not Finish His Current Term

House Committee on Government Oversight & Reform Chairman Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah)

House Committee on Oversight & Government Reform Chairman Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah) shocked the political world by announcing Wednesday he wouldn’t seek re-election in 2018.

Now, a new report suggests he might not even finish out his current term in office. According to the Daily Caller, Chaffetz told a radio host he’s weighing all of his options, including resigning early. Chuck Ross reports:

Doug Wright, a host at KSL in Salt Lake City, said on air that Chaffetz told him he was considering quitting Congress ahead of the 2018 elections. The surprising news comes after Chaffetz, the chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, announced on Wednesday that he will not seek reelection for his seat, which he has held since 2009.

“I just straight up asked him, I said a lot of people are asking me whether or not you’re going to complete the term,” Wright said during his show.

“The congressman wrote back and said, ‘I will continue to weigh the options but I might depart early,'” Wright continued.

Chaffetz had been rumored to be a contender for Sen. Orrin Hatch’s seat in 2018. He also is considered a potential candidate for governor of Utah in 2020. He has said he isn’t ruling out a return to politics at a later date. {eoa}
