Are we about to see more signs of a coming mass destruction?
In a span of four days, California was hit with a swarm of four different earthquakes, bringing up the bigger question of whether or not we are about to witness a terrifying sign.
According to the Daily Mail, a 3.1-magnitude earthquake hit the San Ramon area on Tuesday, following “a dozen smaller quakes ranging from 1.1 to 1.6 magnitude.”
In fact, the San Ramon area had three earthquakes on Dec. 13, including a 2.9, a 2.3 and a 2.2, followed by a 2.8 earthquake the next day and two more quakes ranging in at 2.4 and 2.1 on Dec. 15. These events are part of at least 21 earthquakes the area has had in just over two months.
AnneMarie Baltay from the US Geological Survey (USGS) noted that while the more minor earthquakes are not necessarily a sign of a larger earthquake looming in the coming days, she believes “There is a 72 percent chance of a magnitude 6.7 or larger earthquake occurring anywhere in the Bay Area between now and 2043.”

So, are these events mere natural occurrences, or could they be part of the prophetic signs Jesus spoke of in Matthew 24? He warned that in the last days, the world would experience upheaval, natural disasters and widespread unrest—not to terrify us, but to awaken the Church to a higher calling. No matter what, these signs are a reminder that we must always be prepared for the returning of our Lord.
Instead of succumbing to fear, we must use the time we have on Earth to prepare our hearts, homes and communities with expectation and holiness. This is the moment to be watchful and vigilant, not paralyzed by worry. These events serve as a reminder that life is fleeting, yet the promise of God’s eternal kingdom remains steadfast.
