Does this million-year-old skull point to something greater about humanity, or does it showcase the reality of ancient Nephilim giants?
In a new report by Science Alert, an ancient skull just may be the key to unlocking more about our history. According to the site, scientists from China and the United Kingdom have been using a 3D scanning system to digitally rebuild this skull and figure out where it belongs on the hominid family line.

As Science Alert noted, “It’s not the skull of a modern human ancestor, but that of a closely related human.” For Christians, this just may spark the idea of whether not this could indeed be the skull of a Nephilim giant, a remnant of the mysterious beings mentioned in Genesis 6:4. Scripture tells us that the Nephilim were “mighty men of old, men of renown,” and discoveries like this remind believers that God’s Word provides a framework for understanding the full history of humanity—one that science alone cannot fully explain.
What’s key about this discovery is that because of its age, it means that humanity is older than scientists previously thought by hundreds of thousands of years. Researchers have two of these skulls, which are called Yunxian 1 and Yunxian 2 after its location find in China. According to CNN, it is believed that these skulls could be part of the same species as the “Dragon Man,” which are believed to have been a group of pre-historic humans with unspecified origins.

Ultimately, discoveries like Yunxian 1 and Yunxian 2 invite Christians to consider the reality of the Nephilim as described in Genesis. For believers, such findings reinforce the authority of Scripture and the sovereignty of God over all creation, reminding us that He is the ultimate historian of humanity—even long before modern science could track our origins.
