Gray expressed his condolences for both the Kirk family and those who were at the event during the time of the shooting before sharing the counts on which Robinson was to be charged. Gray noted Robinson is being charged with aggravated murder, felony discharge of a firearm, obstruction of justice and witness tampering. The Utah County DA is seeking the death penalty for Robinson.
The first count that Robinson was charged on was aggravated murder, the second was for a felony discharge of a firearm, two counts of obstruction of justice, two counts for witness tampering
Gray noted that Robinson’s mother recognized his photo and called him the day following the shooting to find out where he was. He told her that he was home sick and had been home sick the previous day. She then discussed her concern to her husband. Upon seeing the photo, Robinson’s father believed that it was likely his son as well, believing the rifle as one that was given to him as a gift.
Gray also discussed the communication that took place between Robinson and his roommate, where he confessed he murdered Kirk and wanted to go back to get his rifle. He reportedly had been planning the assassination for over a week. Robinson also asked his roommate not to speak to any media or police about the situation.
Robinson said he murdered Kirk because he “had enough of his hatred.”
The charges against Robinson were released approximately at 2 p.m. ET, and and he will have his first virtual appearance in court at 5 p.m., according to the New York Post.
Through the FBI’s investigation, it was discovered that Robinson had become incredibly “radicalized” recently, and that he was living with his transgender partner before assassinating Kirk. FBI director Kash Patel announced on “Fox & Friends” that one of the recent pieces of evidence they found tying Robinson to the crime was a note he wrote prior to shooting Kirk.
“The written note we believe did exist. And we have evidence to show what was in that note, which is…saying ‘I have the opportunity to take out Charlie Kirk, and I’m going to take it,” said Patel.
Patel explained that the note was in the home where Robinson live with his transgender partner. Other pieces of recently uncovered evidence include a screwdriver and a towel that covered up Robinson’s murder weapon.
“He had a text message exchange…in which he claimed that he had an opportunity to take out Charlie Kirk, and he was going to do it because of his hatred for what Charlie stood for,” Patel continued.
