The bar has been raised in order to become an American citizen.
According to Time Magazine, the Trump Administration is planning to institute criteria that shows a person immigrating to the United States not only has a clean record, but has every ambition to be a productive member of society.
The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) wrote in a memo that they will begin looking at whether or not an applicant is of “good moral character” such as their “positive attributes and not simply the absence of misconduct.”

As Time noted, this means that considerations for citizenship will now include contributions to one’s community, education, legal and stable employment, how long they have been a lawful resident in the United States and if they have complied in regards to taxes.

This new measure reflects a clear effort to weave conservative values into the fabric of our nation’s future. By emphasizing personal responsibility, lawful living and meaningful contributions to community and country, the standard for citizenship now moves beyond avoiding wrongdoing to embodying good character. In many ways, it represents a call to return to building a nation of people who not only benefit from freedom but also protect and strengthen it.
At the same time, we must remember that no policy can perfect the human heart—only God can transform lives. While government seeks to shape a better citizenry, it is ultimately the Lord who changes people from the inside out.

This new emphasis on good moral character is a step toward peace and unity in the United States, as it calls individuals to rise to a higher standard. Yet true peace will come as citizens embrace both good values and God’s ability to renew hearts, creating a society marked not only by order and productivity but also by compassion and grace.
