The animated film KPOP Demon Hunters has exploded in popularity among kids, tweens and young adults on TikTok and Instagram. Its bright visuals, infectious music and high-energy battles have helped it capture the attention of younger audiences. But while it may appear to be an innocent pop-culture trend, faith leaders caution that its spiritual undertones send the wrong message.

According to Movieguide, the project follows a fictional K-pop girl group called HUNTR/X who secretly fight supernatural enemies using mystical items and elaborate performances. “While anime is animated, the content often contains false religion, violence and adult themes,” the review noted, explaining that this film draws heavily from Korean mythology, shamanistic rituals, and spirit worship practices.

One of the biggest concerns is the story’s central message about confronting evil. As the review points out, “KPOP DEMON HUNTERS says the power within you is all you need to defeat evil… it doesn’t teach the true source of strength – Jesus Christ.”

From a biblical perspective, the danger lies in normalizing occult themes as harmless entertainment. The Bible makes clear that there is a real spiritual battle taking place, as Ephesians 6:12 says that our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Christians are also instructed in Proverbs 4:23 to “guard your heart” because the influences we allow in our lives shape our thinking, choices, and faith.

Rather than simply banning the film, Movieguide encourages parents to engage their children in conversation. They suggest explaining that true spiritual power comes through the Holy Spirit, not from within ourselves or through magical performances. As the review encourages parents, “God put you in your children’s lives for a reason.”
